BMW Tuning in UK
« on: October 20, 2012, 10:06:54 am »
Off topic but looking into the 335i's... Can anyone recommend good UK-based BMW forums and/or BMW tuning specialists around the Essex area?

There seems to be loads of tuning options in the States but not so much over here! In fact there only seems to be one distributor of the JB4 piggyback ECU over here so I'm thinking finding a specialist to fit one may be even harder than I first thought!

Contact PDT on here. They might have a branch down there.
Heres a graph of their map for that car

our work is 70% BMW tuning now. We have stage 1,2,3 and 4 available for the N54 and stg 1,2,3 for the N55.

Stage 1 is a custom map makes 370-380bhp and 380 ftlb (makes 12 psi)
Stage 2 is a custom map + decat downpipes (still passes MOT) and will see 400-420bhp and 430-460 ftlb depending on the boost level you want. (13-15psi)
Stage 3 is a stage 2 but with meth injection, intake, more mapping and will see 460bhp and 530ftlb. (makes 16-17 ps)

stage 4 N54 uses a hybrid turbo with all the bits from stage 3. We are waiting for more takers for development work but early results are 500+bhp and 580 ftlb Big power N55's are showing signs of reliability issues, the N54 is built to a massively high spec for a road engine, being just a dry sump short of the spec of a lot of race engines.

best advice I can give is to go Auto/DCT if you are going big power due to the torque figures. Passenger rides in our stage 3 (soon stage4) 135i are available to serious customers.

heres a graph showing stock, stage 1, stage 2 and stage 3. Figures for stg1 and stock are high as the car has full bolt-on mods.

(can't get it to show in correct rotation sorry)

Thanks guys, very informative! Seems like people are only just really starting to see the performance gains which can be had on them over here! Just struggling to find as much information as I thought there would be!

Remapping would be my normal route of choice but have you got any thoughts on the JB4 set up? Seems pretty incredible for the price, especially when coupled with the meth kit!

I use the jb4 to control meth delivery. The unit itself is rather impressive and it's datalogging capability is ok, basically a piggyback ecu system that 'tricks' the ecu into adding boost and timing. I find its mapping a little crude so I use a back end flash (remap) to control engine inputs and outputs.
