I recently installed the MKi9000 in my Golf and to be honest i'm not that impressed. Streaming music over bluetooth is bobbins, the audio quality is awful and it drops calls like a barstewards to the point where i am thinking about replacing it with a CK3100.

what is it like if you directly wire the Iphone into the kit and play music that way? Thanks

Regarding your question about the sound quality, I have both the mki9200 fitted alongside an RCD510 headunit which apparently has a class D built-in amp. The headunit provides more 'oomph' than the parrot, and one annoying thing I find with the parrot is that the equaliser settings often 'untick' themselves and I have to go back in and tick the box again  but not a bad system all in all!

I wouldn't buy it however solely for playing portable media devices - The RCD series of headunits work much better with their SD card slot  :happy2:

Thanks for the input, how much can I pick a RCD510 unit for and where is the best place to buy one from? I went on the VW site to see the system and it has an aux port which you can use to connect and IPhone, is this what you use when you are listening to music from your Iphone? In terms of the SD card slot, my laptop is pretty old so doesnt have one...

They usually cost between £220-£300 :happy2:

RCD510 pop up all the time in the For Sale section on here or eBay. Make sure (if you get one) it comes with the Security Code. Can come with DAB or without, both are good. Also download all your music onto an 32GB SDHC card and you'll have all your music at your fingertips when you want it. You can get a USB adapter for a couple of quid that you plug the SDHC into then in your Lappy. Example from eBay...

The only other thing you need is an Antenna adapter, about £10 from eBay.....

I have been in touch with a company which fits this kit and they have said the following:

"The Parrot kits contain their own 60 watt class D amplifier, So sound much better that the VW 18 watt standard headunit"

Is this accurate? Thanks.

Amazing, 60 Watt in that little thing, they must have created a new technology to get that much power from something so small. From the information I have, it has a 20W D class amp, but does not state if it's peak or RMS. There is no way it will match a full 4 channel amp inside the radio, even if it's not a great one.

Your best option for playing music from your iphone / ipod is upgrade to an RCD 510, or even better RNS 510 if you want the nav, and get an MDI kit in the car.

I'll say again.. I had one.. and it sounded terrible. The to get any volume from it you need it at 9/10 but at that volume its just distorting.

save your money and get a proper aux input for the headunit or get a bluetooth module.

What about the connect2 kits? They are relatively cheap. Any thoughts? Thanks
