r32 / s3 rear brakes
« on: October 26, 2012, 06:20:47 pm »
My rear brakes are coming up for needing replacing so rather than stick more gti parts on I figured it would be a good opportunity to upgrade them to the 310 vented discs.

First of all.. what is needed?

calipers, carriers, discs and pads obviously

Presume I need some r32 stone shields as the gti ones wont fit although I never see people selling the rear brakes with stone guards so do they even have them??
What about hoses. Will the GTI hoses and handbrakes cable fit or does this need changing too?

Secondly... I'm just getting a rough price from euro car parts.
http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Volkswagen_Golf_3.2_2006/p/car-parts/brakes/brake-friction/brake-disc/?104441268&1&d6d425e1c756df4c59ff2644b75d17fda029bd59&000027

£44 per discs

cant seem to find the correct pads.

Does anyone know acurate prices from VW for the consumable bits?

Thanks in advance.

I will be doing this soon. Have just got hold of some S3 brakes. I had a search through on here and found a few threads that might be of some interest to you, plus help with some of your questions.

My understanding is that the rears will fit straight on, the r32 stone guards WON'T fit so the original ones are used with a little tweak to stop them rubbing on the discs.

Hope this helps  :happy2:

Thats what I did when I fitted mine, once the caliper and disc are removed its just a simple task of bumping the stone guard with the palm of your hand gently until the 310mm disc fits without fouling.  :happy2:

.
I don't think it matters if you don't fit any guards. It's a bigger problem when you get a stone wedged between the guard and disc. No guards on my S3 rears (on Mk5 GTI) and plenty of other folk running the same.

Uses the same front brake set up 345mm, but has smaller rear brakes 286/288mm iirc

Ha well that explains it then.

You must have got the wrong rear part numbers as they are for 310mm bits.

Nothing wrong with the part numbers, they are definitely 310mm rear brake set up

I'd say he's just priced the standard set up. I'll contact him tomorrow too confirm

on my tdi i used the rear r32 rear guards when i put the r32 brakes on mine--every thing is the same ie brake flexi and hand brake cables--the only thing i would advise is to get new bolts that nold the brake pad carrier on to the hub
