....I'm not a professional commercial producer but just get involved in producing and co-producing (with someone with decades of experience, Stevie) our own recordings, some of which then get professionally mastered to broadcasting standards. Stevie can recognise the detail of the stuff you are talking about but my strength is in the overview and mix. I obviously recognise when something sounds typical of an era but I very rarely know why.

One of the reasons why Stevie loves working with me is that I never set out with any preconceptions about what sound we are trying to achieve. It's why we've got Keith Richards quote on our latest album:
