Headlight options...?
« on: October 27, 2012, 10:08:09 pm »
Hey all,

after some advice if someone would be so kind...

I have just picked up a 2004 pre face lift 2.0 GT sport upon which I want to change the complete front end.

Im going for the GTi bumper option, and due to corroded headlights Im going to change them aswell but dont really have a monkeys on what the options are for these.

Can anyone offer some guidance on this at all? i.e which mk5's have which headlights, are GTi different to R32 and ED30 and such like?

Part numbers, prices and links would be fab also - not that i'm asking much

Thanks guys  :happy2:

Headlights can always be wet sanded to bring them back to new. Saves a few quid! I did it by following this thread:

The standard GTI/ED30 lights have a black inside rather than silver, and look much better for it.

The other option was the xenons which are by far the best looking, but costly to retrofit compared to going for the standard GTI lights.

The R32 came with xenons as standard  :happy2:
VCDS cable HEX-USB+CAN. New but can do the basics including coding

I've done what you want, but stuck to the GT grilles, here is the black insert lights.

Although if the car is a keeper and you can afford to install them properly, the Xenon's are phenomenal in comparison. Just bought a car with them and wow.

Also, very early standard cars (maybe even yours) had grey insert headlights, in addition to black and chrome ones.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Yeh it was as it's a 55, just missed out on facelift.

I got them years ago on ebay and they're genuine, sure some later GT have them too.

I'm just looking into this too! I've found that Hella does a set of headlights that look like xenons, but they are actually stock H7's - bit pricey though!

Not bad. Do they have the VW logo on the plastic diffuser for dipped lights?
