I unbolted the bottom ball joint, track rod end and pulled the driveshaft out of the hub to get enough room to remove the strut
Put plenty of grease in to make refitting and realigning the strut easier.
And when you tighten the driveshaft bolt make sure it is done with the weight off the wheels

assuming you ahve the bolt removed
, you need to open the joint in the hub a little, there are special tools for this or you can just use a pry-bar. A good spray with WD40 will help too

I used an old Allen key socket and ground half of it down on a bench grinder.
Inserted it into the gap on the hub behind the strut and gave it a quarter turn opening up the gap.
And as above I had to disconnect the hub as there is not enough room to take the strut out otherwise

May sound daft but i pulled the whole leg/strut/hub out as one (it means taking caliper off and the disk and guard) but then just beat the hub with a copper mallet worked pretty well

best to remove the caliper so you dont strain the brake hose then using a length of scaffolding about 6ft , insert between the chassis and the hub and lever down till the strut is parted from the hub, easy.
