Exhaust Emissions Light

Hi All

My exhaust emissions warning lamp lit up amber  this morning - was running absolutly fine yesterday.
There also seemed to be a fair bit of smoke come out the exhaust when it first started.
Stopped car and turned ignition off the straight back on again hoping it would remove the warning light but no joy.
Onlt had the car a couple of weeks (Edition 30 DSG) but it was running absolutely fine.
Been doing alot of short journeys recently and only other change is I filled it with Tesco momentum yesterday as shell garage was closed. The previous owner did say he used momentum regularly though?
Has any one got any thoughts/ advice - All will be greatly appreciated.

Can be so many things - you need to get it scanned.

That was fast! Cheers for the reply - Is that a main dealer visit then or will an independant have the tools to do the scan?
What are the possible issues? Lambda sensor?
Anyone suffered similar or got any ideas of costs etc?

When mine came in it was the N80 valve, but it is commonly the charcoal canister. I'd just get it to an Indy - VW charge over the odds for scans...

Or check the VCDS section of this site for someone with VCDS close by.

Quite a lot of people on here have VCDS which can scan for errors. My light came on and with the help of SqueegeUK were fixing the issues that were thrown up. As I drive a 1.9TDi, the first thing was the glow plugs as 1&2 were intermittent, and the next thing we are going to change is the fuel temp sensor. Which was the only other error.

Basically many people have had the same problem and it can be thrown up by many different things. So the only decent option is to get your car scanned. There is a thread on here giving who had the equipment and where! Hope this helps!

Well ive been driving around with mine on for over a month now  So it should be fine!

Just returned home from work and gave the car another go hoping the light would not reappear but no joy it's still on. Only drove it through town back home (2 miles) - is it worth taking it for a longer run on open roads to see if it clears or just leave it alone?
Bought it with 4 months of a warranty direct warranty left on it as previous owner had mechatronic replaced under warranty - paid extra for all work to be done by main dealer. Anyone got experience of these warranties? Should scan & all repair be covered?

Quick update - took it out for a "spirited" back road drive - deffo no performance issues! However light still on and left it running for a bit when parked up - it's now idling rough - ticking over at 1000 rpm but then shooting up to 1500 every few seconds? Does this give any further indication?
Should I not drive it?

Got car back from VW today.... The verdict - faulty pcv. Cost - £169! £30 part so an expensive car wash!
Covered by warranty direct though so all good.
