Cold call "Windows Technical support" anyone else had them ring
« on: October 30, 2012, 12:56:41 pm »
Just had a scammer trying to get remote access via phone

Answered the phone and with an Indian Accent the Guy said "this is window technical support, there is aproblem with your PC"
I knew this was a Scam, but played along. He told me to start the command process. he then said what is on the screen? I told him there was a message to call the police

he tried to act innocent, then I put the phone down.

HAHA, I love doing this with sales people.

One time when I got a call from a guy (paul from mumbai ) trying to sell a mobile contract but didnt ask my age, so after 15 mins of going through plans and me accepting he asked for my bank details...I said I was only 15 and didn't have a bank account.

Search on youtube for Andrew Ryan on Russell Howards Good News. He did a stand up piece on how to deal with people when they cold call and want you to confirm your details. Was quite good.  :signLOL:

It is funny, but the sad thing is, there are thousands of people who fall for this type of crime.   :sad1:

Heres another video showing in depth what the scammers try to do. They called this Aussie guy that appears to know a fair bit about computers. (he's a security professional)

He recorded all the conversation and the on screen action with "Richard" on his "very slow pc"  :sad1:
(His pc has 6 Hyper threaded Cores and 12GB of RAM)

Its a long vid if you can watch it… (its great near the end when the indian guy is told he is rumbled)
