Just found myself a pair of 10x18 merc split rims, same make, style etc as the 8.5's that I already have. Organised to go and see them on Monday!!  :surprised:

Also decided to take advantage of the good weather. Washed with 2 bucket method, lambs wool mitt, clay bar kit came out, residue washed off and towelled dry, ultimate wax kit, trim detailed & finally tyre protector. £100+ worth of meguiars cleaning stuff I've had for a while & never used.

The results:-

Not sure yet - I've got 5 of them too!! A few marks on them from before I bought them. One of them (the spare) use to be on the car, but my sister kerbed it, so I made her buy me a new rim!! I warned her before I leant her the car she couldn't use the kerb to help her park. She has never since asked to borrow my car - result!!

I think they are too chunky to pull gold off! Black or anthracite?

Doing something similar and it's very important to pick what YOU want and not what other people say or suggest.
The point of splits is to give you the variety and choice to do what you want, you have lips, barrels, bolts and faces to play with.

I don't mean to sound rude or whatever but really, wheels are up to you on colour man. Spend some time on Google looking through finishes to get an idea of what you want..

They are fake splits (making them even harder to refurb!) the bolts have all been glued into place on the thread - 2 came out, 2 rounded and 1 snapped! so having to polish, then mask the polished section, then pick my paint and do the centres, lacquer them. remove the mask, then pick out the bolts in black . I'm thinking that colour coded would look amazing, but wouldnt suit many other cars when it comes to selling them on.

Went an look at the 10"x18 Splits - they are the same make as the ones i have, even the same offset (et35) - getting them on the Jetta would be a challenge I think i'm not even ready to take on at teh moment! Shame - think I could of got them for about £100!

he also offered me a set 19" Merc Lorisner rims too! Shame one is bent! :(

So started this morning with this:-

Use a small file to fix the outer lip (kerb marks etc) then onto 80grit paper, then 160, then 320, then 600, then 1500, polishing mop with autosol!!

Then onto a finer metal polish & another polishing mop

And repeat!!

That's 2 done! 2 to go, then onto painting the rest of them. Thought of a colour I love, so going to paint them that colour! Could be controversial!!
