hi what does the et stand for on wheels as see all dif ones on vw wheels but it says they will all fit the golf is this true

Et is the offset. Its the distance from the hub to the centre line of the wheel. The standard et is 51 (i think) so when looking for new wheels try to stay as close to this as possible, you will be able to get away with atleast 5mm either way though.

so is a 17" wheel with offset of et33 no good for my golf 1.9 tdi with 15" offset of et51 thanks

^^^^ have a look on this offset calculator below. Enter your current wheel size and ET and also add the size and ET of the wheels your thinking of and it will give you a visual idea of how the 2 sets differ on the car.

Depends on the width of the wheel.

A 7.5" wide rim with an offset of 40 will sit no further out from the arch as an 8.5" rim with an offset of 52. But it will sit an inch closer to the inner arch/foul suspension etc.
