What tyres should i go for on my ED30?
« on: November 05, 2012, 09:40:43 pm »
Im replacing my front tyres on my ED30..
At the moment it has Falken 452's on the front/rear which in the past i have always rated as a cheap tyre. Anyway, this time im looking to spend a little more on tyres, around £100-£110..

What should i go for? I can get a Michelin pilot sport 3 from camskill for £105 plus £2.99 delivery which is unbelievable and say £10 fitting or ive been quoted by a local tyre garage £109 for either Pirelli rossos, Goodyear Efficient grip or excellence, dunlop Sport maxx or Bridgestone REO50A's.

What tyres best overall as i cant seem to make my mind up or get my head round the ratings etc...

The Goodyear Efficient grip seems to be the best allround, going by the stats/ratings on camskill's website?

I just had hankook evo v12s fitted.

I had some cheap crap on the from before (fitted by previous owner)

The hankook cost 110 each fitted and I now have grip all the way the the red line in second gear.
Before second would just spin up. Even when it is was dry.

I am not saying they Are the best tyer but give me what I what (grip in dry/wet and at a decent price)

More than loads, FWIW I vote GY Eagle F1 A 2's. For all corners I paid about £500 inc fitting. Bought from Tyre Shopper but just as cheap as Camskill (although they will need fitting separately)

Loads of threads on here, search is your friend and also new tyres should be put on the back of your golf not the front! (Search) :happy2:

I've just gone for Michelin Pilot sport 3's, Brilliant grip, much better than the Pirelli P Zero Rosso's I've had previously from new, and they last longer than the Goodyear F1's according to Tyre City.

I'd go:

Michelin Pilot Sport 3
Goodyear F1 Assymetric 2
Continental Sport Contact 5
Pirelli P Zero Rosso

Forget the rest, these are the top 4, and all rated the same: A in the wet, E for fuel, and 71-72 decibels.

Fun Golf: 2016 mk7 R DSG 3 door. Work Golf: 2015 mk7 1.4 TSI GT ACT 5 door.
Gone but not forgotten : mk2 Golf GTI 16v, mk4 Golf V6 4Motion, mk5 GTI Storm Developments Stage 1, mk5 GTI Revo Stage 1, BMW 330ci, Skoda Octavia VRS Revo Stage 2, BMW Z4 Sdrive35i.

I put a pair of Falken FK452 tyres on the front of my Edition 30 a couple of months ago and I'm very happy with them so far

I used to use them on my old EVO MR FQ300 and they were great on that too  :happy2:

yeah new tyres on rear, even if car is front/rear/4 wheel drive
reason being if for example you have a blow out anywhere on the car you will need your maximum grip on the rear to give you most chance to control the vehicle.
quote direct from Michelin
rear always

:congrats: Good decision! The grip is amazing, I can go harder into corners with so much more confidence now, and the ESP kicks in a lot less too. Brilliant tyres. Don't forget to give it 100 miles  to get the funny coating off that they put on to stop the rubber deteriorating in delivery/storage.  :happy2:
