Top 3 Power Mods...
« on: November 06, 2012, 11:59:56 am »
Hi guys

I've had my GTI nearly 4 years now and love it to bits, though I'm thinking of adding a little more power. It currently has stage 1 Revo, but other than that it's all standard... I was thinking of getting a full Milltek put on but other than that, I don't really know much about power increases  :ashamed: What would you recommend to get the most power increases by installing a few basic things? (exhausts, intakes etc - I don't know about much else lol)

Thanks!

 :innocent:

I've recently had a 200 cell sports car fitted, which has really 'freed up' the GTI. I already had a twintake induction kit, milltek cat-back and some form of stage 1 map from the previous owner...goes like the proverbial off a shovel and sounds immense now  :happy2:

I'd be looking to buy second hand, most likely from the good people on here   I have a mortgage now to think about so I can't be spending willy nilly  :signLOL: but would like to treat my car to some speedy love

Cheers guys!

I would perhaps swap the intake for an uprated hpfp. I am running stage 2+ with the oe engine cover and paper filter. I ised to have an intake but it lost theblow down torque and felt slower driving round town. Switched back to my oe cover and the car feels great again. Just food for thought.

....That's very strange and unusual. I did back-to-back dyno testing with and without my Twintake and the Twintake delivered an extra ~15 bhp (with Milltek TBE already fitted).

Were you running a TBE exhaust?

Robin, just a thought but you could have got +15bhp top end from the Twintake, and possibly lost a little at the bottom end. As you drive in the mid- top range it probably went unnoticed?

Would be interesting to see back to back dyno graph with the twin take if JKM still have it?

I have revo1 on my edition30. Adding an ITG intake is my best mod yet , as it added a further 16bhp to my car. I do agree Iv'e lost a little low down power in town , but who needs mega power in town anyway. Take her out of town and the car come's alive , just an awesome mod , sound's great too  :driver:

Another vote for Downpipe and Sports Cat first, made a noticable difference to mine at stage 1 without even remapping to stage 2 (which I have now done) and gives a nicer tone to the standard rear section of exhaust.

I couldnt live with the low down loss of torque as there are a fair few hills where i live. The car still feels quick and I dont miss the extra few bhp top end. I very rarely use the top end power and only really go there when overtaking and I can still get passed with ease. I will be puttingbmy car on the rolling road at Shark soon so it will be interesting as the difference it has made on paper. But i take the view that the K04 can make 300 bhp with ease using the oe cover and paper air filter. Then the oe cover can flow enough for my K03.
