Will the vw dealers wipe my ecu remap
« on: November 05, 2012, 06:04:35 pm »
Hi folks,

I remapped (stage 1) my Mk5 Gti earlier this year. It is booked in for an annual service in a couple days at my local vw stealers. Question is, will they wipe/delete my remap and put it back to standard?

I was gonna mention it to them prior and say it is not to be removed but as its not a VW thing will there be an issue?

Many thanks and sorry if this question is a bit silly?

Ask them to not apply any software updates without confirming with you first.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Also leave a note in the car not to update the ecu as well

Tell them its mapped and they will make a note on the job sheet not to do any update.
As said also worth leaving a note on the passenger seat to be double sure.
But most are use to dealing with mapped cars.
Ex mk5 GTI owner, moved to a mk6 in 2010.

Coe iv just had my 40000 big sevice done at my local vw,and i asked this very Q`s and the answer i got back was "we would`nt normally check for any updates unless the customer specifically asked for it"but to be on the very safe side of things i done exactly as the other forumites on your page has stated. told the wee lassie at the service desk under no circumstances without consulting me first should they do any kind of softwear update as car was remapped.i called my tuner just incase and he said that worst case senario he could just put the map back on,but to be honest you dont need the hassel in the first place.tell them and leave a note for the engineer type person lol :happy2:

I went for a service inc cam belt change recently. I told the dealers not to touch the ECU as I had a remap done. However they did disconnect the battery which caused the car to go back to stock values, although the map was still in the ECU. This did piss me off as my dealer actually offers a revo remap service so they should have been aware. Dealers are total twats at times.

Anyway I had to go back to the garage who did the remap and they guy made some minor adjustments which made the car use the remap again. if you are simply going in for a standard service though then this should not be an issue as it is unlikely they are going to disconnect the batt. If however you are getting a cambelt etc changed then they may well do so. Just something to be aware of.

Interesting as I will be getting my cam belt changed soon.

There must be a way of keeping the map on if the battery is connected.
If not it will mean half this forum has already lost their map.

A mate had his Gti battery replaced today. He has no remap but what if that was me having a new battery with a remapped car?

Loss of battery only affects those with Revo maps I'm sure.

Having the ECU flashed with a VW software update is something different.
