What to do with rear badge
« on: November 02, 2012, 07:44:54 am »
So, I bought a later style mk5 rear badge handle / mechanism that was missing the badge as it had been pulled off. I planned to just put a mk4 badge on it instead then sell it on but that is a little too raised underneath so doesn't look quite right (even though I know someone on here has managed it so must work)

Anyway I can get another type of badge that will stick on and look good I think, but I am also toying with the idea of just wrapping the black mechanism part (that the badge would attach on to) with some vinyl carbon fibre look stuff then sticking a rabbit badge in the middle or even GTI letters - just to be a bit different - before flogging it on the eBay

Just wondered what people thought would work best? I thought the later could be quite unusual

I believe the mk6 chrome badge fits and it can be bought seperate rather than the whole mech

Part Number: 5K0853 630 B ULM

Cheers Nodz. I had thought about that but it also has some vertical fixing brackets underneath which wouldn't match up  :sad1: plus that would cost a bit too much  :signLOL:

I think i may go with some cool vinyl over the whole badge and bit below it and see if that gets any takers on ebay  :driver:

Just a thought.....

Why not prep/sand/fill/sand and paint or spray the plastic part in a gloss black and then stick some of these vinyl stickers inserts on. As you don't have the Chrome VW emblem, might give the "appearance" of an emblem.  Would look different (very flat to the car) and might look ok (might look naff on the other hand)

I have a vw emblem, mk4 badge, just didn't seem to fit as well as I would like to sell on. However, a bit similar to what you suggest I have ordered some brushed steel vinyl which I am going to wrap over the emblem and part of the underneath mechanism so that it is a bit different - could look good could look naff

Well the vinyl has arrived and my first plan is to wrap over the top of the badge and the layer underneath (which is only stuck to the main mechanism itself anyway) and see what happens

Should probably get this moved to the exterior mod section at this rate  :signLOL:

Well here it is so far :)
Managed to scratch the plastic underneath a little (muppet  :sad1:) so will need to try and fix that too, but pretty happy for a first try at vinyl

Just need to attach the now one part back to the main mech  :driver:
