Hi all I'm new to this forum. Just wanted to ask you guys for your opinion. I have a VW Golf GTI MK5 it's done 39,000 miles and its a 2006. Every time I go there they talk about the dam thing. Do I need to change it or not? Asked a engineer at work who fixes cars at the airport for his opinion he says you should change it at 60,000 miles. He goes your car is made and built to last longer then 39,000 miles. Need your opinions on this cheers ppls. :driver:

You need to change it, it's time and mileage dependent because rubber ages. Rather change it than it snaps and causes all sorts of chaos.

I bought my 2006 gti recently with 43 on the clock. Cambelt hadnt been changed. It's upto you at the end of the day but for me, for the sake of £300, I got it changed for peace of mind. When they took it off there wasnt a mark on it but it could have come off completely battered, so my advice is just to get it changed.

If it snaps, then its going to definetly cost you more than £300!

snapped cambelt = a VERY expensive engine rebuild.
