Greetings kind people of MK5golfgti.co.uk!! Being a noobie here and noticing that you have this Members ride area, i couldnt help but try and fit in so i've decided to copy and paste my build thread from Edition38 on here! I Hope you dont mind? I'd like to state that i am extremely greatful to whomever takes time out to read my thread- i really do appreciate it.

Before i go on to start my dissertation, id like to state if you see any strange sentences, large gaps or strange writing inbetween two of these - :: its because they are copied emoticons from the Edition38 site. Im going to be straight talking, i cant be assed to go through each one and affix the relevant emoticon for this particular thread so im sorry if it seems this has all been typed in a monotone HAHAHAH! :P Ive gone through and picked out every entry that ive entered, hopefully all of them will have dates on so you can follow it like a story but if not im sorry!! So here goes:- enjoy! :D Oh, and both positives AND negatives are welcome folks. Please dont feel free to give your honest opinion, its good to know what people out there think of other peoples work. So yeahh enjoy!! :D

Hello Edition 38 once again :D

been some time since i was last on here, used my dads car while i didnt have something VAG but sort of lost track along the way with work and what not... first of all i want to apologise for the use of "|[ ]|" because i know that it can offend some people, as it has done in the past on a few other forums (not too sure how i managed to offend if im honest) but its just something i do to make it stand out thats all :) now thats out of the way, lets begin shall we?

On the 6th of November, myself and my dad were driving through the Bedford to visit one of my dads friends when we came across a dealership. We thought we'd park up and see what they have there, to my amazement they had the car i was looking for! Took it for a test drive, checked everything was kosher, did my research and whacked a deposit down! We returned to pick it up on the 9th, and my days i had so much fun driving it :D

Hazzah!! Praise the Lord! a 2004 VW Golf 2.0L GT TDi! 6 Speed with 108K on the clock, one owner from new with full VW service history including a cambelt that was changed last year (one less thing for me to do at the moment anyway!) Its a funny colour, a Greeny Grey but hey its different! Dual Climate Control, Aircon, 6 CD Changer, and even electric folding mirrors...didnt even know the Golf had that option on them! it picks up speed really well and blimey it produces some GREAT MPG! Cheap tax, and insurance for me is just £900! 2 accidents, and 1 NCB! An epic win on my part !!

They took my Mazda 6 in as PX, and because i wanted to keep my plate from the Mazda i took all documentation with me to the DVLA office and handed it in! It may look tackie looking at the moment but believe me folks, i got some plans for this so watch this space :D i wont disclose them yet... ill expose them as i go along..

on the 12th of November i picked the car up from Arthur Prince VW in Loughborough, and to my suprise it was pretty much sound  i was expecting it to have a heap load of things wrong with it but was just a few! Apparently the battery was on its way out (even though it had no symptoms) and said that a Heavy Duty battery was recommended for a price of +£100 (i dont think so :) ), changed the oil and filter and also asked for a brake fluid change too! They called me to say that apparently my Intercooler pipes were leaking and not weeping (i was like huh  just change them) which was an additional cost too... need two new tyres though apparently running on 2mm on the fronts! Also did one of those multipoint inspections with a road test

all in all? £200 with a stamp in the book. Not too sure if thats any good, but hey i'm sure one of you clever lot can tell me if i got ripped off or not haha!

So on the 22nd of November, i managed to get the paperwork back from DVLA so i can put my private reg back on WOOOOOOOOO!! Got the plates from Authur Prince VW In Loughborough along with fixtures and sticky tabs in case i dont want to use screws for just under £15! Pretty damn chuffed about that because now me and pops can cruise in style with matching plates!

On the following Friday evening just gone i realised that my front passenger side tyre was running abit low on air, got to morrisons filling station to realise it was on 9 bars/psi/dont know the difference  being the clever barstewards i am i thought id pump the tyre up all the way to the 37... not knowing that when i parked up outside my house i may well have driven over a nail left behind from one of the nextdoor neighbours workmen that day. Woke up Saturday morning to realise i had a completly flat tyre... heartbreak i tell you! found out that it was the nail that made the penc-ture and my dad found some random homemade indian putty poop to put around it to get us from Loughborough (Northwest Leicestershire) to Leicester (ermm... central Leicestershire? :S) without deflating! So anyways got to Tyres Galore in Leicester and got 2 budget tyres on the front (seeing as i wont be planning on running the OEM wheels for much longer haha). While i was driving it before i noticed that the Steering wheel was ever so slightly bent to the right meaning id have to hold it at an angle in order for it to go straight which just aint cool! My dads best mate swears by these guys so i thought may aswell give them a go for 4 wheel tracking alignment too while i was there..!

So they jacked the car up and did their thing!

A before shot of the print out to show what needed doing

And an after shot to show some significant improvement

Now i was talking to the gentlemen that carried out the tracking and he told me that -1.05 degree on the front passenger side wheel would only be corrected by replacing a particular part, but went on to say that it could be any one of a fair few parts and started talking about arms and bearings... i thought id leave it at that :) i had my tyres at a bare minimum and thats what i came to get so anything more was a bonus for me hahah

total bill? £129... ive already forked out a fair bit on this car since ive bought it... lets hope this is the last i need to do maintainance-wise because i really want to start modding sometime soon

Thanks for reading folks, both positives and negatives welcome :D

Woah been sometime since i updated the buildthread on here anyway  so here goes :)

09/02/2011-

Managed to get myself an Original VW Votex rear from Sunny GTI on the forums which left me with the difficulty of finding a Votex front! :( I searched high and low, and was even close to getting one from the US but it never worked out because of shipping costs and complications and what not... <_< In the end i managed to get one on Ebay, and took them to the bodyshop to get it all sprayed and fitted leaving my rear looking like this:-

and front like this :-

Seriously guys, watch this space because this whole modding malarky is becoming quite addictive and am already in negotiations with regards to my next plans...

Hey guys just a short update-

As the cars a daily, dad usually takes the car to do a few errands leaving the Audi sat on the driveway for weekends. As i work with my dad <_< he asked to use the car at lunch once, so he comes to me desk an hour later saying "your cars not locking". i go outside to realise that the cars suffered a serious Electrical Stroke leaving one side of the car completly powerless! With it being the drivers side, the filler cap, windows, mirrors, and even the central locking messed up! The dash light showed that the door was still open when it obviously wasnt and so the interior light stayed on constantly! Called the AA out who did a quick inspection of the fuses and established that it was a fault inside the door itself  they went on to say its not a Roadside job and that i should look at getting it sorted. Now the problem was, they could get the filler cap to open manually and i had less than a quarter tank of Diesel..so meant that i had to get the car sorted ASAP!

panicking like poop because im due to go London Thursday i called a few garages up who said that it would be £40 for a diagnostics and the rest would follow... but earliest any of them could get me in for was Tuesday! Only choice i had was the VW dealers... They took it in straight away and found out what the problem was there and then! Dropped it in 03.15 yesterday and was ready for collection 9.45am this morning! :D The Price and cause?...

Apparently the wiring had come loose from one of the control units inside and became worse with "excess slamming perhaps?" Now this may have been true because when my dad told me about it first i checked the windows and they were working fine. Once the AA came and opened and closed the door a fair few times it stopped ALL the electrics working :( Whats even more crap is that it went in for a Longlife Interval Service at the same VW Dealership and they highlighted on their diagnostics that it had an error code for the drivers side window console? But we just ignored it because it worked fine at the time... Anyway thats a hefty chunk taken out of my account

Watch this space for a better update LMAO but thanks for reading non the less ;)

Hey Folks just another update

This weekend i took a trip down to London town, starting off in West London, through Central and then into East! Managed to finally pick myself up a set of wheels from my main man Lukas.G60! (thanks again bro, much appriciated :D ) down in South, abit of a lengthy treck to start off at 6.45am on a saturday morning but im happy with them so it was worth it So here they are:-

A set of Lorinser D93 Monoblocks. Their staggered 18's running 8 on the front and 9 on the rear. Now the thinking behind this started a few months ago when i was looking for some rims, it seems that BBS RS's (as good as they look) are abit common, and ontop of that WAY out of my budget, and now the fashion (as per UD 2011) seems to be Rotiforms i thought id step out of the box and do something abit.... different! They could do with a clean, but that'll leave me with something to do over the weekends when im free! Its hard enough to find a set of rims that'll fit a MK5 Golf that look alright or arent already wrinsed so i thought id look at the Merc and Lorinser range.

I asked a few of my mates and got a VERY mixed view. The worst being "Are you thick? Everyone's just gonna laugh at you when you roll up to a meet with those, they just look like hubcaps- Split rims and huge dish FTW" which wasnt very nice, but hey im modding my car because I like how itll look, and like being abit different cant please everybody hey! Even if it does make my car look like im a special boy, itll get peoples attention either way wont it ^_^

When are these going on? Im not too sure to tell you the gods honest truth. Funding for tyres, spiggot rings, spacers and maybe a refurb will take some time to aquire. I learnt some pretty saddening news yesterday about someone in my family so it looks like some funds will be going out to that aswell and im certain that DirectLine wont permit anymore of my modifications. Ive spoken to Brentacre (probably the only insurance company that wont rape my arse with a stupid price) and they'll cover it but only when i get my 1 Years NCB, which will be in November.

So in conclusion, my modding wont stop. Itll keep going, just means i wont be putting it on the car until 1st November 2011!

12/07/2011-

After some discussion and research into speakers, i decided to get myself a speaker upgrade for my car. I headed down to VW and picked up a Speaker Upgrade kit for my golf (10 speakers in total)... dont ask about the cost because youll all fliping shoot me anyway

Fronts:-

Rears:-

The sound levels are slightly better than normal, and i can turn it up a hell of alot more and not worry about rattling cards or any distortion! To get some refined sound out of them im going to need to replace the headunit, that'll be somewhere on my to-do list. While VW were fitting them, they decided to do an "Express Check" and told me that my front bushing had gone (i knew that would happen anyway because last i heard it had a crack on it) and the rear drop links have split  ill do some research into that, and get them done before it gets slammed. Planned sometime soon is some Paintless Dent Removal for the small dings the previous owner kindly accumilated and a wiring job for the airbag plug located under the drivers seat causing that stupid barstewards Airbag light and airplane beep on my dash everytime i turn the ignition

On the other hand though, after GTI Inters my parking bulb went but VW supplied and fitted the bulb for free which is nice i guess :)

More to come guys

______________

10/08/2011-

So i was hoping to get the car slammed this month but instead realised i had 90% worn brakes... probably best to be road worthy and not kill anyone. New discs and pads were called for on the fronts... while it was getting done i thought id get the rear drop links replaced as they were split and the front Control arm bushes as they were gone apparently...!

And unfortunatley for me, upon dropping a friend home after work, i realised i took a wrong turn down the labarynth of country roads so i decided to do a turn in the road... between two grass verges... heard a gently crumple, and reversed back to assess the situation. Shon my phone light on it and didnt seem like anything unusual, but come the morning...

Not good! The two peg things in the centre have snapped off aswell... i think it was because i didnt go for an OEM splitter and got one of those fake lookalikes off ebay. But having looked at the paint damage (which maybe a handful of you already knew about as there was elements of this showing at Inters) it seems that may not have primered the front splitter when spraying which is probably why its flaking off everytime i wash my car...? Anyway i went back to the bodyshop and the guy got abit confused because he was "pretty certain" he primered it. Either way he's willing to take it in at the start of Sept to respray it free of charge! Seeing as the notches are snapped, and i really wanna spend more money on slam and stretch ill just get the notch remains smoothed down and sprayed over... ill be Half a job Harpreet for now :)

_____________________________

26/09/2011-

Considering the front splitter wasnt in too good shape, i had the car taken back to the bodyshop to get them to correct it (free of charge mind) on Sept 5th. While it was in there i thought id ask him to have the rear debadge and put in its place a Rabbit badge i managed to get off Ebay. got it back the day after and it looked a little something like this:-

and the rear-

After encountering some serious problems with Water Coolant loss i thought id investigate on some leads as to what the problem could be... alot of forums, mechanics and my sisters BF were pointing towards to the Radiator so i thought id have VW take a look at it as they had the car in to replace the front radiator cooling fan anyway...they confirmed that the Radiator was leaking in two parts so i instructed them to have that replaced at the same time... the result? A bill.. <_< I shaant go into the details of the price but they sorted it non the less. apparently it can be caused if the coolant isnt flushed every 2-4 years as per the schedule. So with it being Mechanically sound i was happy :)

With Players 2011 fast approaching, and a substantial amount of money left in my account i decided it was time to get it dropped aswell. Unfortunately, giving people a weeks notice might not have been such a good idea, but HTS Motorsport managed to slot me in the day before Players to get it decked! No more stilts :D No more jokes and no more lean when going around a roundabout a little over 20mph...! So i drove down from Loughborough to West London early on a Saturday morning to collect it later on that day looking a little something like this... (p.s pics are poop, it was on my iphone and feel i couldnt get the right angle... trust me its LOW compared to how it was!)

Dropped by 40mm, and can always be adjusted as and when! Ideally i didnt want it any lower at the moment because of the fact i have quite a few squared speedbumps around my area and think i need to get used to driving a lowered car before it gets slammed some more. Me thinks this'll be how it sits through Winter. Im just waiting to get the Lorinsers refurbished and wrapped in Rubber ready for the end of winter/start of 2012. Oh yeah ill leave you all with one last pic, i went to the Dealers today and managed to park next to a stock MKV. I appreciate the angle on this pic was pretty poop aswell but i tried my best

Thank you for taking time to read this so far :D

Did somebody say Moar Updates?! :P

Well here it is! And its far from an interesting one for many of you... After some serious water coolant loss problems and going back and forth to VW it was established i have a possible Cylinder Head crack  the price they produced as a quote felt like id had a small mongral chewing at my testicles. So i did abit of shopping around and it seems that the CHEAPEST price i could find was a measley £100 below what VW were saying  As its coming up to Winter now, i thought it was best i drop it off to them. They said they need it for a week so they have it now, poor thing :( I left her in the waiting area to the operating theatre...

and in the meantime have been issued with a Courtesy car:-

a 1.2 Polo. After getting to grips with it this morning, i soon realised its not as powerful  but it hasnt even covered 1000 miles yet and it has an amazing new car smell :D Shall keep this updated as and when i hear some news from VW....!

______________________________________________________

So i got the phone call on Tuesday to tell me that the Cylinder Head had a crack which was where there water coolant was being lost :( Gave them the all clear to remove the head and replace it (quoted £1900 originally)

While they were at it, i realised my cambelt needed changing so asked them to replace it. They said they would discount both the part and labour for the work to be carried out which was rather nice of them :) To cut a long story short, this is how it worked out:-

Now alot of people will probably think i need shooting in the head, but with it sucking alot of Water Coolant and the risk of it getting worse, i had to get it done sooner rather than later. I did loads of research and specialists were quoting £1800 minus all the extra's that VW did! All in all, was rather impressed with the work and greatful for their Gesture! To think, all it took was a letter...! Goes to show, if you dont ask you dont get i guess :)

Coming up to 1 year anniversary of ownership on the 9th of this month, 19,000 miles and gone through 2 services since ive had it.... Serves me well she does :D

Next on the list- get those wheels refurbed!

Hey folks whats happening?!

So its 2012... the festivities are over and the moneys in the account (happy new year to all of you reading this :)) As im sure many of you already know, ive had a set of wheels knocking around in the shed for some time now and were in need of a refurb. To jog your memory, they looked a little weathered. No serious blisters, just mild kerbing, a few scuffs here and there and those annoying specs of brake dust that just wouldnt come off :wallbash: forgot to mention the discolouring of the centre caps oh fudge it ill just let the pics do the talking:-

After some shopping around and recommendations, i took them over to The Wheel Specialist in Nottingham who accomodated my request quite well (i think anyway) in Chrome Powdercoat. So 24 hours later and im left with these:-

I had a look at a range of different finishes i couldve got, i was even considering colour coding them but after some pondering i thought id go for them in this finish. The lighting for the location their stored in isnt ideal, meaning the pictures dont really do them justice but i can assure you they look nice :) im thoroughly impressed with the work they carried out, and will try my best to keep them in that condition

Im sure ill get some mixed reviews about them seeing as everyone has different tastes. I considered a range of different finishes, but stuck with this because it isnt exactly Chrome Plated, but gives a similar effect to it when the light hits it...! All i need to do is get them wrapped in some good quality rubber and were good to go! :P Ive also realised that i bought the wrong sized spiggot rings for them (doh!) so thatll give me something else to look into :)

As always, positives and negatives always welcome! Thanks for reading my update :D

Whats going on guys! Just realised i havent updated this in a little while, so here goes:-

Following on from the story, i ordered my Tyres from Blackcircles.co.uk and they came through a few days later! The price was a little dear, but thought id get something thats going to last/has a good reputation.. Took them to a friend who managed to it fit them on and dash finally dash them on the car, finally making it look a little something like this :-

excuse the dullness, it was covered in a thin layer of brakedust...! :(

and a cheeky dusk shot on the way to Somerset with a friend!

It looks just as id imagined it to! Got alot of positive vibes from people at traffic lights or petrol stations, until earlier this week when i was dropping my boss home from work when a cyclist came from out of the pub carpark and pulled a wheely into the middle of the road. To avoid knocking him i pulled to the right slightly and mounted onto a small (he says) island, tearing off lower front, and rippling my arch slightly. Not impressed, what made it worse is as i got out the guy shouted "you forgot this mate" whilst laughing. However i found it admirable that his chavvy friends told him to shut the fudge up and asked if my car was drivable. I was so pissed off at that point that i just couldnt be bothered so drove all the way home with a scrapping arch liner. I was ready to just sell the car off as it was if it wasnt for my dad giving me an inspirational talk about how not to buckle just because of a minor set back and all of that jazz, so upon his command i ordered a new Votex front end from VW that night and came through 2 days later. Just a bummer that i have to wait till the 28th to get it fitted and the arch re-done! Ive managed to take some pliars and bend the arch in slightly so it doesnt catch but its only a temp job..! So now my car looks a little something like this:-

minus this:-

equals:-

What makes things worse, is that i bought a set of spiggot rings for my wheels and found out that the highest size was still not big enough! Ordered some 82>57.1 custom spiggots which should be coming this week.... no more wheel wobble (i hope :|) After the knock, i found my steering wheel to be bent to the left to drive in a straight line so this morning i thought id get that sorted:-

(pssttt, i got undercharged hehe :D)

Thanks for reading guys! :D

They had finally arrived!

rather big spiggots i must say but it was a snug fit and completley eliminated the wheel wobble! :P Roll on 2 weeks so i can get my splitter on

Quick update

I had the front valance replaced and wing repaired... but to make things worse i curbed two wheels in a multistory carpark in Cambridge  so i ended up £177 out of pocket due to this, but hey whats done is done and nobody died :)

no pics of a before and after of the refurb but a little wheel shot of mine against my friends Jaguar

Update Needed:-

Since having the wheels refurbished, i took a week holiday out in Germany with my sister and took the golf with us! Was an amazing country, so clean and the people were great! I felt like a week wasnt enough so it goes without saying that ill be going again sometime this year (not sure about taking my car this time though only because of how much the tolls were going through France...! ) Parked up at my sisters place in Cambridge and pulled too close to the kerb again and kerbed it!! oh i felt my heart sink, but had to get the wheel refurbished again else it just wouldnt look right! Had it done 2 days later and job was a good'un :) (didnt have any pics unfortunatley because of the quick turn around time)

A few weeks later while we had our sudden burst of sunshine across North West Leicestershire i decided to wash my car and give it a quick wax and it looked a little something like this (did abit of a mobile Photoshop jobbie on it) :-

Shortly after going over the car properly i thought id drive into town to meet some old school friends for a drink. Driving at a good 20mph in a 30 limit i parked up and locked the car. As i was walking away i couldnt help but notice some feathers in the grill, so i decided to take a closer look only to be greated by this:-

Thats right, a dead bird :( God knows how the hell it got in there as i wasnt driving fast enough to kill anything! I can only imagine it decided to fly through the holes in my grill, break its neck against the Radiator and frazzle to death...! So the next morning i had to get my gloves on and get rid of it (not a good job, because i kept trying to grab it by its wing but they tore off like paper!) but eventually managed to get rid of it!

Putting on the hot blowers in the car on the way to work, i noticed a strange smell, at first i thought i wouldve been the remenants of the dead bird however it smelt more like wet dog/soggy feet so i did abit of googling and found it could well be the A/C causing the Mildew smell. I had the car booked in at VW this Monday just gone in hope that they can give me a refresher and AC bomb to clear out that smell...!

On my way walking back to the dealership with a skip in my step i saw my car parked up around the corner from the workshop! :D i couldnt help but notice a small defect on the splitter, so being the impatient flange i am i walk closer to the car and the blemish gets bigger untill im greeted with this :-

Hello Mr Angry  ! I waltz in with my pissed off face on, and after speaking to the service staff they tell me that the damage was caused because one of the staff turned off the ramp too soon?!?!? They were quick to say it wasnt because the car was lowered because theyve had my car in too many times in the past year whilst its been dropped and stated it was just human error. Anyway, they ordered a brand new front splitter (original this time at least theres some gain B) ) and will have my car in at their bodyshop on Monday...! Whilst im without a car they'll give me a courtesy car fully insured by themselves untill Wednesday which is when they say they'll have the car ready by so i guess we'll just have to wait and see if they mess up again! I guess accidents do happen, its just an inconvenience that when one thing goes wrong, something else will mess up soon after..! Take the rough with the smooth i guess...

Time for another update! Got the car back from VW last week after getting the splitter replaced with a Genuine Votex splitter (i didnt tell them it was a replica before hehe :D) all sprayed up and fitted (it looks like it fits better aswell, the disadvantage of running a replica eh...!) unfortunatley i dont have any pics of the new splitter but ill take some soon :)

So shortly after VW planted the AC bomb in the car, scenting the air vents with a detol-like smell, there was still that lingering smell of wet dog in the back, which came for 5 seconds and went again...! A little bit of head scratching, a quick trip to the VW Parts counter, a Haynes Manual and a glass of milk and i got to work on replacing a filter. Bare in mind this is the first piece of work ive done on my car without something fliping up. It was a success needless to say, and was left with this as the culprit:-

Pretty bloody stink i must say. just a whiff of it got me wheezing. I'm guessing it got like that whilst driving through Germany as i only had it replaced last year...! Either way, my cars smelling neutral and its all gravy for now :D Took a pic whilst i was at the cashpoint earlier..

Till the next update...

Last week i finally had the funds and courage to go back on what i had previously said about keeping the head unit stock and went for an Alpine double din...

So here it is! The Alpine CDE-W233R :D Works an absolute treat, im shocked with how clear and definitive it sounds! Im now starting to think it was a good idea to have had that 10 speaker upgrade done by Volkswagen haha! Not too sure at this point in time whether i would want a sub, because its giving me all the right bass, mid and treble at all the right levels but who knows... we shall see what happens i guess! :)

Had also shifted my old Alpine to a gentleman on the forum :( but im confident its gone to a good home :)

Hey Guys! Time for an update as this hasnt been touched for some time...

Had the car in at VW for its 2nd yearly service, clocking 154K on the clock and still running strong *touchwood*. While i was there they noticed my tax disk holder was getting a little battered so they threw in another one in along with a Servicing Sticker :) (oh dont you just love freebies)

..With money being tight and not much else left for me to do on the car i thought id get some of the niggly parts sorted out. One thing that has bugged me for some time is the hazy headlights, 154K on the clock i can imagine some weathering will take place. A good friend of mine who was willing to help offered to restore them for me in order to put me out of my misery which was rather nice of him! So heres what he was up against:-

could be worse i guess... but in any case he got to work...

taking shape...

and sorted!

I would therefore like to take this opportunity to thank Raj at ElitePolishing for his work, of which i am highly appreciative!! :D

At this point i thought id go ahead and purchase what i had been waiting for for some time. Now im going to get mixed reactions, im bracing myself for the negatives so here goes- Headlight protectors. YES I KNOW the headlights arent like the MKIV's and are made of plastic i know that, but i wanted to get them because they look funky and different. Id just had my headlights restored and thought id get something to just reduce the signs of weathering (whilst i know this isnt completley avoidable because it can damage from the inside of the lens).

But in any case, im building the car for ME so being a fearless barstud here are my pics:-

Plans to follow from this are as follows. In the next 2-3 weeks i plan to strip the Lorinsers off and put the old Magny Cours on for Winterspec, in the meantime i will be looking at purchasing a set of Adjustable Top Mounts for the fronts and adjustable rear to put all the camber issues right. I want 2013 (if we make it that far what with all this end of world malarky) to be the year the Golf runs perfect/accurate as bloody can be alignment so i dont have to worry about running the insides of my front tyres bold or causing sawtoothing on the inside of the rears....!!

Thank you all for reading :)

Seeing the Gritters driving through the streets the past few days, i realised it was time to go Winter Spec on the old beast. If im honest, i was quite looking forward to getting my old wheels on! I cannot fathom how frustrating it is to know your rear tyres are Feathering/Sawtoothing, creating a mind tremmering rumble as you creep down the street. Not only that for the past 2 months id felt a vibration through my accelerator pedal/front end of the car which meant i had enough.

So i spend the ever darkening evening going into the shed, tearing the old gardening equipment out to get to the wheels right at the back. Gave them all a quick check and was soon reminded of why i was so thankful to have them off in the first:-

Luckily for me i had enough time to pop down to the local tyre fitters and pick up a part-worn (£20!) with plenty of thread left. At this point it was approaching night quite quick and just couldn't leave it any longer. Luckily a good friend of mine opted to give me a hand by letting me use his drive (as mine was on an incline) so we got to work..! With a little bit of this:-

...and discussions involving old school days, we soon uncovered abit of this:-

and the rears were like this:-

The pics arent all that clear so i apologise guys. One of the fronts was severley bulged on the inner wall which is certainly the issue surrounding the issues on the front. the rear tyres were badly feathered/sawtoothed causing the inner face of the tyre to have excessive uneven patches. It appears it had a leading and trailing edge, must be a problem with the rear camber. In any case, that would lead me quite nicely onto getting a set of adjustable top mounts for the front and adjustable rears (yes i know they come standard but what the hey!) to get everything in check for 2013 (if were still alive by then, thoughts go out to the folks in the US!)

So we got everything good, realised one of the tyres was flat and thought we could make it to the nearest shell, but we didnt. So luckily my friend took us in his anni all the way up the end of our district, to obtain a footpump (poverty spec for the win) and give my car a footjob...

My friend gave it a damn good footjob because by the time we got to Shell to pump them all up to 34 that tyre was already at 32! Great work Arun! :D

So after all that, my car is now looking like this :-

Its considerably low at the front (a fist and little finger off the ground) but we'll see how it rocks like that for a while. Have developed a knocking at the back, i suspect another snapped drop link but hey its expected running low so im not going to blame anyone but myself...! :)

Thanks for reading guys and girls!

Hi Matt

This one hasn't I'm afraid, I had the option of getting one for a slightly higher premium but couldn't warrant the extra spend as I wouldn't be using the Bluetooth feature at all. Very good head unit though, with the right tuning it's pretty effective! :)

Nice thread and i can see its taken some time to write. Im not a great fan of the vortex lip and by the looks of things the car is trying to shake that thing off too!

The wheels do look nice and im glad they are being looked after. Its a real shame you've had so many problems but youve been quick to fix them and solve all the problems, fingers crossed for that trouble free 2013 our after!

I drive a 1.9 TDi and wouldnt consider yours to be as low as mine, then again i have so many issues getting to work!  :stupid:  :happy2:

Car is looking tidy and hope to see more soon! Any small interior mods to publish?
