Are COLD AIR INTAKES worth the money? Or is it all Bullsh*t?
« on: November 11, 2012, 10:33:58 pm »
Hey up guys,

Just purchased my MK5 GTI last week, and the modding will begin soon. Gonna start with full catback and remap....but after watching a few video like this:

&feature=plcp

They clearly show no really HP improvement? I know they sound nice, but should money be spent else where, or should i still buy one?

Any help would be great

Ross

You feel / gain any HP at all? I love the sound too, but should it be further down the list? :driver:

I had one fitted and did not like how it lost the low end torque or the induction noise. I have since refitted the oe engine cover with a paper panel filter and am currently running stage 2+. I have not had any issues running this setup, so for me, after market intakes are not worth it.

The noises that come from my ITG are immense, loads of chatter too once your running proper boost.

I'd say it's a must if wanting to run a bit of power like 350+, the standard airbox does look restrictive!

Welcome along Ross!  :drinking:

Loads of threads on the subject of CIA's and performance or lack off. In short some say yes, some say no. Have seen 16bhp improvement from an ITG Maxogen on a stage 1 car without a TBE and others have not seen any improvement. Saying that, adding an CAI is not or should not be about solely gaining BHP and more about working in conjunction with other mods. Personally could not stand the noise of it and sold it shortly after installing it, having Darth Vader in the cabin was not good.

Use the "Search" function, tis your friend.

After a remap a cold air intake upgrade is the best bang for your buck modification you can do......as long as you choose the right one. :happy2:
