Doors not unlocking properly, and buzzing when they do
« on: November 15, 2012, 06:24:16 pm »
Over the last few weeks my doors fail to unlock properly when I press the button. Not everytime but it's getting to be more often. It sounds like it undoes the doors and the lights will come on if it's dark. But the door is still physically locked. When it does do them properly it makes a really odd buzzing sound at the same time. I've had a quick on here but can't see any topics about it.

Can anyone shed some light on what to do next or what to look at?

Cheers
Fred

It's a common problem with the mk5 that the door unlocking solenoids (IIRC) fail.

One of my rear doors started struggling to unlock before it failed, although my vw dealer replaced the mechanism under warranty. They advised that If I didn't have any warranty it would have cost around £250 to replace  :surprised:

There is a how to guide if you want to tackle it yourself (sorry I don't have the link)  :sad1:
