New Tyre Time

I've used the search function, but have not uncovered a consensus opinion on a few things.

I think I've narrowed my choices down to 3:

- Pirelli P Zero Rosso (my current tyres)
- Michelin Pilot Sport 3
- Michelin Pilot Sport 2

I have the following questions:

- What's the major differences between the above three?
- Which one is best in the wet?
- And which one wears the best?

Any other opinions and comments would be very much appreciated!

I've had both the Rosso and now the Pilot sport 3 from new, and I'd go with Michelin. More grip in dry, better in the wet, and more rim protection as well.

The Pirelli is very good, It's just that the Michelin is excellent. I paid 121 a corner fitted at Tyre City, and they really look after your wheels as well, agreeing condition pre and post fitting, with promise of refurb for any damage.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Assy 2's are another alternative  :happy2: (in my opinion of course!)

Cheers for that, but I was a bit put off by all the tyre wall issues I've read about the Assys.

I've just ordered a set of Vredestein Ultrac Vorti for my eddy. My reasoning came from this website:

Im paying £114 a corner fitted/balanced etc..

Ill perhaps do a product review when ive got some miles on them!

I had the issue with my assy 1s but my assy 2s don't have any faults but I have only had them for 6 months

No problem with my GY F1 2's, cracking tyres and am on my second set. Personally the best "everyday, all round" tyre there is. I'm sure the Pirelli, Michelin, Conti' Sport shod boys will say the same!  :indifferent:

X2  :happy2: I've tried loads of different tyres on loads of hot hatches. Love the GY's  :notworthy:

It was rated best tyre for the mk5 GTI in at least one magazine test

Re. the differences between PS3s and PS2s, the PS2 is a softer compound and is the more performance orientated tyre. The PS3 will last longer and give better MPG. I've had PS3s on my GTI and I thought they were excellent. Grip in the wet is particularly good.

To add to what Andrew just posted, the PS3 is not a replacement for the PS2, the PSS is the direct replacement but are not available in the EU in the correct sizes. IIRC the PS3's replaced the exalto or something like that

....The tyre wall issues (which I have neither experienced with them or heard about until on here) were allegedly on Asymm 1's, not 2's. Only Asymmetric 2's are available now and I'm about to buy some more again.

My dad just got 4x PSS fitted last week in 225/40/18 @ a registered michelin dealer
