Updating to V9 Maps RNS 510
« on: November 15, 2012, 10:20:39 am »
Hi everyone,

Trying to upgrade a RNS 510 for a member on here and is having a weird problem.

He has a version B unit which had 2680fw on it, upgraded it to 3810. he already has his canbus upgraded so no battery drain issue there.

He had Map version 7377 and tried upgrading to v9 and it takes a few hours to do. When the progress bar gets to the end it goes back to the beggining again and loads again

now heres the tricky bit

Ive also got a version B with the same FW. Mine done it in around an hour. However I upgraded from v8 to V9.

I do remember when my canbus was an older version and tried upgrading to V8 it also took very long (3 hours!) the progress bar kept restarting.

What could be the issue? My RNS unit works perfectly with 3810 and V9 maps. His one takes ages,

Could it be that he is upgrading from V7 straight to V9 ? and not V7 to V8 to V9?

Thanks for any help.

Raz

makes no difference, if it worked on yours and many others. If the drive in the unit doesn't like the disk then it won't install.

I had a unit, tried loads of copy disks, none worked. Used the genuine disk and installed first time

Apparently it makes a difference on what make and type of rewriter you use to produce the disc in addition to using the best dvd discs and burning at a slow speed.

Ive always used my sony laptop to make FW and Maps discs. Ive made Eastern Europe V8 and UK v8 and V9 maps. they all have worked with no problems.

Going to give it another try and leave the disc for a few rounds, as this is how i updated mine when i did V8. Eventually it loaded onto the hard drive. but took 3 hours.

what part of what i said don't you grasp

you could burn loads of disks that work on your drive and many others. If the drive doesn't like it, it won't install.

it will install to a point and keep cycling round and restarting.

Solution = Genuine disk or change the drive

Since I can't see the V9 maps being released offically in Germany, are these downloaded V9 maps actually the real deal?

You need a dual layer dvd. They are around 8gb. Buy a verbatim one.
