ABS problems
« on: November 14, 2012, 10:53:37 am »
Whilst driving yesterday a couple of fault lights came up, ABS in yellow along with tyre pressure monitor in yellow and traction control system warning in yellow.

Any how to cut a long story short i scanned the cat this morning and got the following faults.

00290 ABS wheel speed sensor rear left G46   003 mechanical failure intermittent

The best way to remove the rear caliper and what tools are needed as the sensor snapped off whilst trying to remove it, to find the part number.

Many thanks for your help.

I think it's 2 x 13mm spanners to remove the caliper from the carrier

And a m14 triple square (splined) bit and lots of swearing/cut knuckles to remove the carrier

I assume you will need to remove the bearing housing too to get to the abs sensor which is also splined bits but I am not sure what size you would need

Hmm cheers baz, i wil maybe try a different way to get it out. Like maybe screwing a screw in and pulling it out. Unless anyone has any ideas on this aswell ?

Right so i replaced the faulty sensor today after finally getting the old one out. Plugged everthing back together and went for a test drive.

About 200 yards up the road i get a warning bleep and more lights flashing.

So back home and scanned it all again and now i have intermittent faults on both rear sensors G44 and G46.

So my new question is, Is there a control unit for the rear sensors and could this be faulty ?

Or should i just bite the bullet and get VW to scan it
