« on: November 16, 2012, 05:22:58 pm »
Hi guys i need to get my front bushes replaced asap as it is causing uneven tyre wear! anyone had any experience in this and how much it would all cost, again im new to all this any help much appreciated!

Its a mk5 gti Stage 2+

Thinking about taking it to Statllers as all previous work on the car was done there and I hear they are good!

.
You'll be in very good hands if you go to Statllers - They love cars and know what they are doing.

Take the opportunity to get aftermarket polyurethane bushes. SuperPro, Powerflex, and PolyBush, are the main producers. I have SuperPro.

Review and info about poly bushings: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,53579.0.html

Unfortunately there's a lot of labour involved in knocking out the OEM bushes and replacing them, plus you'll need an alignment afterwards.

That sounds like an awesome price - VW quoted me £300+!

Still haven't had it done but I have some H&R springs that I want fitting at the same time so might consider a trip over to Shef.

They are lemforder bushes which make O.E for VAG and most other German car manufacturers, they are part of the Z.F group
If you want the same part from VAG but with a VAG invoice then stick another £35 + Vat on the quote
Hope this helps  :happy2:

....That price can only be for OEM bushes and I would have thought the supply only. In real-world practice, old OEM bushes can be tricky and very labour intensive to remove.

As I wrote in my review about polyurethane bushes, the labour is the same for either replacement OEM or polyurethane bushes and so it makes more sense to fit the poly ones which will last longer and perform better. You'll need an alignment in either case - Did whoever gave you the £115 quote tell you that? That's likely to be ~£75.
