Hi all!

I have now owned my Golf 1.4S (I know not quite a GTI) for 6 weeks. It looks very similar to a GTI however with no power, maybe with a year or 2 it can sway me but currently insurance was to high.

I have always had a love for Golfs though, so thought I would join the site as it seems very good and informative.

No doubt I will speak to a few of you again!

The first Mk5 I drove was a 1.6FSI. On my first drive I immediately thought 'what a gorgeous car to drive'. Felt so solid and balanced.

Have you driven one with a 2.0T lump yet? It's magnificent! Maybe you could give up beer for the insurance... When you get one it'll be very familiar after the 1.4, but just sooo much better.

Yeah when I first got my golf I got in and instantly thought it was solid and comfortable. Once my next no claims comes in I will look into the golf GTI.

Unfortunately I havent been in one yet but the guy across the road has one and it is BEAUTIFUL.

How do you find the GTI is like with MPG and general short a-b journeys? Does it rinse through your petrol?

^^^^ depends how you drive it TBH.

I have had 40mpg on motorway drivng with Cruise on and also seen 17mpg with some "spirited" driving in my Eddy. Ive logged my petrol consumption and on average i get 27.8mpg IIRC. The main consideration is the amount of miles you'll be doing and the type of miles ie. town (stop/start) or main road cruising.

Short journey - 0 to 20 miles of town driving I'm getting about 30mpg, motorway driving is usually high 30's. Best I've managed is 41.9. Average is sitting at about 30.2 just now.

I'm similar high 20s on my 15 mile commute to work but it involves a lot of roundabouts and a back road with a few hills.

On a longer run I can get 32-34mpg
Have not really been on any motorway journeys so not sure what I would get

Seems generally they arent to bad on petrol then. 27+mpg isnt bad at all.

Im guessing most of you drive a lot of a/b roads?

That's a highline dash
It can probably be retrofitted but you need someone that's good with VCDS to code everything

I'm in Aberdeenshire so most of my driving is A and B roads as the nearest motorway to me starts at Perth
