Quick Saturday lunch time job, fit Milltek downpipe
« on: November 17, 2012, 11:10:48 pm »
So been off work this week on holiday popped in to help the guys with a couple of bits and thought I would get the car up on the ramp and take standard downpipe and cat.

Easy little job hour max normally.

All the nuts came of lovely after soaking for half hour in WD40 except for one the one tucked up under the head the worse one to get to

Got down pipe off and out the way tried all of my conbinations of grips to remove the sheared stud with limited room this was useless.
So pulled out my snap on stud extractor set. And guess which one is missing. Was getting a little stressed by now.
Thought I would pop over to halfords and pick up another set £20 later get the socket on the stud and give it a turn and the thing falls apart insides fell out. Cheap crap.

Tried the 2 nut method to get the stud out and there wasn't enough thread.

With no room to really get a drill up there and drill it straight next step would be turbo off and if I have to take the turbo off it will go in bin and be replaced by a k04 have to be done.

So last ditch attempt before spending out on another turbo. I tapped a 12 sided socket over stud and hey presto thing undo's straight away. Proving the simply ideas work best.

Checked in my tool box and found a little bag of genuine studs with a order date of 2005. I knew I kept them for a reason

Now job done and time to destress
