I've got the hellas with mtecs and I'm not even bothering with a hid kit found them plenty bright enough.

I'd second that, MTEC's are great upgrade. I'm throwing the money at a Milltek I reckon.

Which Mtec's are you guys talking about, because I just bought some Mtec Super White bulbs and am very disappointed with their performance. I found the Osram Nightbreaker's I have on my Jetta to be far better as far as light output is concerned.

From my understanding, I was lead to believe that 100W bulbs in a road car are illegal!!!! Is this not the case? I was under the impression that 55W are the max you can use on road. I must also add that I am only using these as full beam on my cars as both have xenon's.

Yeah I think your right there the 55-100w ones I don't understand what the packaging means though but they aren't dazzling at all look completely Oem in the projectors I very rarely use the full beam but I have them in there as well and they are also very bright. These are the ones.www.hids-direct.co.uk/mtec-h7-12v-55w-super-white-hid-class-upgrade-bulbs/  I've just noticed they also have 100w ones producing 160w or 170w by the looks of the packaging

Another opinion here

I had some mtec 4350k in my standard lights and found the output a bit not as good as halfords ultra brilliance.
Again in the projectors the mtecs were bright enough to look at but on the road they didn't light up as well as id hoped or indeed the ultra brilliance bulbs.

Heres the hid kit i have in mine.

The hids outperform the lot and cost less than the ultra brilliance too. These are non canbus 35w and were recommended by a forum member who has run them for over 3 years without issue.

Edit
Just to add I went for 5000k.

Just so I'm not confused,
If one chooses, they could just run their original halogen bulbs with these headlights?

Yep you can use the same bulbs from your stock lights and fit these xenon look lamps and away you go if thats what you want to do.

Lots of people opt to do just that, or use xenon blue bulbs like nightbreakers etc, or a HID kit.

So lots of options your open to, the choice is yours once you have the headlights  :happy2:

Hope that helps!

I've never used a HID kit, but am interested as I'm getting a set of these headlights, so have a few questions.

Regarding fitting (HID kit) is it just plug an play?

Do they throw up faults being non canbus? What coding needs doing?

Thanks

It all depends on the HID kit you buy but has to be H7 bulb type and 55w kit to be on the safe side and OEM is 55w also. OEM colour is 4300 to 4500k

It will have to be canbus compatible otherwise you will get bulb-out warning and the HIDs wont ignite or flicker a lot etc. No coding is required for aftermarket HIDs usually as they are meant to be as plug n play as possible (as not everyone has diagnostics kit to hand)

Hope that helps :)

Guys,
I've installed my Depo xenonlook headlights last week (LHD, The Netherlands).
They look great! Just like o.e.m.
I've also bought and installed a quality 5000K canbus xenon kit and it works great (no faultcodes/flickering/no need to code with vcds, starts up every time, etc.).

Only problem is I received 5000K H7R bulbs, and we need H7 bulbs for our projectors (H7r is specific for reflector housings, there is a small anti-glare strip on the bulb). I think this causes two ground shadows in my projector headlights, so I'm going to send them back and swap them for normal 5000K xenon H7 bulbs. The ground shadow problem could also be due to the 'ground return wire' on the bulbs, which is located on the wrong side on our FK/Depo headlights -> Ground return wire is on 12 o'clock, while in o.e.m. projectors it's on 6 o'clock.

I've also tried stock halogen bulbs in them, to see how the light pattern would look like.
I notice that the light pattern in front of the car isn't 'evenly illuminated', like I see on other cars.
How comes? Is this normal? Have you guys also noticed this with these xenonlook headlights?

Here's a picture, above with halogen h7 bulbs and beneath with 5000k h7r xenon bulbs
(sorry for bad quality, but you can see what I mean. remember it's lhd):
