Hi those represent your plug on the back of the h7 bulb in the depo light ...you just pull the terminal block off back of h7 bulb and put the two terminals from the hid bulb kit ..these are what supply power to hid ballast ...as for mounting ballast you could mount ballast under light as there is a space there with posts to screw to like the original r32 lights ...also there is a outline where you could cut out and push wires and bulb through

sent using my own fingers

Just use standard halogen bulbs such as osram cool blue intense.

Out if interest have people notified their insurance companies that they have fitted projector headlights with HID kits? I presume it invalidates your insurance if you dont notify them however HID kits are not technically legal or a grey area at the very least I presume they could also invalidate insurance?

Using standard lights is the problem with these headlights as the beam pattern & output is affected.

I bought this kit (5k) and it is brilliant. It works fine and the light output is brilliant. Also didn't have to do the 6 o'clock mod :happy2:

The output is obstructed, I currently have standard bulbs fitted well, Osram nightbreaker +'s, so standard fitment & the light out put is quite scary! The beam is blocked in places & doesnt even make contact with the road.

This is what I found ..I fitted mine with mtec bulbs and I had to have main beam on they were so poor ...I genuinely believe they require hid kit as I put osram night breaker plus bulbs in and it was still worse than standard lights ...so I think with 35w hid kit with digital ballasts and 5k bulbs should give you enough light output but still think beam pattern is weird but you can't change that

Definitely, My Mrs has Osram nightbreakers in her car, as do I in my golf with the FK lights and the difference is quite literally like night & day.

I am buying HIDS & if that doesn't resolve the issue then the FK's are gonna have to go.

I know this topic has been exhausted to death but I still don't see a definitive answer...!

I have a mk5 with auto lights...gona get the depo projectors next week...

What HID kit can be used that...
1. Doesn't return a light warning and
2. Doesn't burn out the wipers
3. What wattage..35w 50w or 55w
4. As lights are auto is Canbus needed or not

Am I also right in thinking VCDS needed to disable shutters?

Looking at these:

Thanks in advance

I have the depo lights since februari 2013.
You need a slim ballast, canbus, 35watt, 5000k or 6000k H7 (non C or R) hid kit.
Look for a good  quality kit, so you don't burn your wiper motor (common problem with cheap hid kits in the mk5).
You need vcds to turn on 'xenon without shutters', so you don't get faultcodes and ignitors/start-up works every time (also with the coming/leaving home functions)
You need H7 xenon bulbs with the ground return wires on the good side, otherwise you get ground shadows. You can also cut out a small piece of the socket, to turn the H7 bulbs. See my pictures:
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,56795.msg697548.html#msg697548 and further in the topic.

Example:
(not my photo, I have steel sockets, so I used a dremel to make a new tab in the steel ring)

If your coding for xenon without shutters then you don't need a can-bus hid kit.
I have had a standard hid kit fitted for nearly 2 years now with no issues.
The problem with wiper motors burning out seemed to stem from people using can-bus kits because they avoided the need to change the coding in your car.

I fitted my Depo lights and coded them myself and they have been fine.
If you are planning to use standard non hid bulbs you will realise that the light output is poor with standard bulbs.
If i am being honest and was buying again i would save the extra and go for Hella lights.

Cheers chaps..

So coding correctly seems to be the key here..!!

Problem I'm having is all kits seem to have the ground wire at 12 o'clock...! Do you know of any that don't..?!?

I couldn't find them with the wire on the 6 o'clock position. So I did the modification myself. With a dremel.
