A few weeks ago I saw a mk5 gti coming towards me.
As a mk5 gti owner I was having a good look.

He had he fogs lights on (why I have no idea). But the iceying on the cake
was he also had his sunglasses on!!!!!  :stupid:

This had me in stitches!!!! Lol

....Are you sure it wasn't me!? Was the drive wearing a baseball cap?

LED DRL's in the GTI foglights location and I wear prescription lensed polarising Oakley's.

....Well, we are never going to agree on that, so each to their own  :drinking:

Mind you, I don't find front fogs that annoying.

DRL's are a nice touch. Fogs tend to give off the light that blinds me!

On modern cars where DRL's are fitted from the factory, does the DRL switch off when you switch on the dipped beams?

I have also seen sidelights + DRL's used at night.....  :fighting:

It dims the DRL's

My Dad always said avoid people that wear hats and people that smoke a pipe while driving. So far it's been reasonably good advice.

If I ever meet a pipe smoker that's wearing a hat I turn round and go home.

I don't really find them annoying, I just fail to understand the reasoning for them apart from being a bit of extra "bling?"

If someone can't see a huge chunk of metal on wheels driving on the roads I can't see how said vehicle having DRL's is going to make much of a difference if any.
Silver GTI, Revo Stage 1, R32 rear bumper, R32 exhaust, R32 rear lights, ED30 front splitter, RCD510, Lowered on Eibachs, open fog grills.

i dont think they are bling, there are proven to reduce accidents during the day - im sure its documented somewhere.

anyway, my rant about fog lights is still going on and can feel my blood pressure rising as i look out of my window and see its dark and on the drive home, i will come across the inevitable idiot with their fogs on!!!  :fighting:

....This subject is something of an old chestnut and has been discussed many times. As I was the first person in the UK to fit them on a Golf back in 2008, I have heard it all.

It's not as simple or as black and white as you say, JStav. If you have the time, please read some of this:

....Then perhaps I should start smoking a pipe.

I wear a hat with a peak for a very good reason: It stops top light from interfering with my vision through my prescription shades.

You can have the fronts on their own but to have the rears you need the fronts on as well.

Cheers Hedge, that's what I wanted to know. Surely pointless though. If it's foggy don't you need both front and rear fog lights on?

If your car never had front fog lights as some cars don't, wouldn't you want the person if front of you to have on their rear fogs lights (providing it's foggy of course), so that you could see them from further afield as a safety measure? I know I would.

You're missing my point - I'm saying what is the point in being able to control them independently? If it's foggy, it's foggy, and if your car has front and rear fog lights surely you need both on. When is there ever going to be a scenario when you just need your front ones on?

Oh fair play to you. I thought you meant fronts on and not rears.
