Anyone replaced the auto light/wiper sensor??

Evening all,

Anyone replaced the sensor for the lights/wipers on the back of the interior rearview mirror? Got a price from the main stealer which wasn't as bad as I thought but wondering if it's a DIY, i.e. is it simply a case of plugging it in?

Also does it need aligning/setting up to the ECU etc, or is it simply a case of plug & play?

Mine's an early MKV so about 6-8 sensors round the outside with one in the centre - presumably for the wipers. Seems later ones are four diamonds in two rows of two - not sure this makes any difference??

Any suggestions/help appreciated.

How much was the quote if you dont mind me asking. Mine has the 4 diamonds and im sure its way to sensitive as the lights seem to be on most of the time

easy to change, any version can be fitted

remove the shell trim

and slide downwards to the bottom of the windscreen

unplug the plug

£38.20 incl VAT from the main stealer - which was less than I thought - then again once I get it it'll probably look way over priced!

Before replacing consider looking at other Golfs. I've had mine 4+years and they are VERY sensitive - during low light levels of winter they're on almost all the time in my experience.

On a sunny winters day like today if I start off in the shade the lights are likely to be on and take quite some while to turn off, even if driving into direct sunlight - surely this can't be right? I do think it's worse than it use to be, hence why for £38 I think it's worth replacing the sensor - though it may make no difference!
