Drivers door fault?
« on: November 21, 2012, 01:09:11 pm »
Forgive me, not at home so can't check the manual......... :happy2:.........The inside light has stopped coming on when you open the drivers side door and headlight warning buzzer has stopped working also the car automatically locks itself even when the driver side door is open, everything else, windows, mirrors etc seems ok, is there a fuse that controls this lot or am I looking at some sort of technical gremlin that is thinking the door is shut all the time??????

Sounds like your door lock module is faulty.Quite common on the mk4's and so it seems mk 5s too.
Heres a "how to" for fixing it.

Other than the car locking itself when the drivers door is open there's no fault at all with the locks (if that doesnt sound too daft) basically anything that is supposed to kick in when the door is open now doesnt work, basically the cars acts like the door is closed all the time.

Not sure if the fuel pump also primes on the MK5 as it does on the mk4 but this is/may also be another symptom.
The door lock module has micro switches in it and it is the one that is triggered when the door catch is open that has failed. On my mk4 i managed to solder a new switch into the module and resolve the issue but its a lot easier to change the whole module if you are not so handy with a soldering iron or are unable to source a suitable replacement microswitch.

Just to clarify your symptoms should be as follows

Lights on warning not working
Interior light does not come on when you open your door
Fuel pump not priming when doors unlocked with fob
If you unlock your car and open the door and shut it back the car will lock itself after a min or so as it cannot detect that the drivers door has been opened.
If you have auto locks enabled on your car the dors will randomly unlock and relock as you are driving.

I've had a similar issue on my brothers mk5.
He had no lights on buttons, indicator not working and door would not lock / unlock via central locking,  had to use the key in the door to lock manually.
Turned out to be a broken wire in loom between car and door.

I don't think this is your issue but worth mentioning.

I have a door module if you need one, but it could also be the lock mechanism/ module.

A scan on vcds showed implausible signal for drivers door module.

A scan may help diagnose your problem.

Hope this helps.
