I have a Airtec twin spec waiting to go on my ed30 and the quality so far is really good!

Am I bothered its not got a forge badge on??!  :booty:

....Rather than be bothered about the brand/badge, isn't it more important to learn which delivers the best performance or whether there are any differences in build quality or design?

Airtec as previously said is well known, albeit not in the vag world but mostly in the ford world from what I can see. I'm sure they love their cars just as much as us and with that comes them doing there homework and not just bolting any old rubbish to their car! With that said I can't see Airtec not applying there knowledge or quality to a cooler for a golf, so as far as that goes I trust the quality and unlike most in this thread I have one in front of me and I'm not just looking at Internet pictures or passing on hearsay from bobs neighbours brother.

As for which delivers the best performance, i don't need the best I just want better than what I had. The difference between the forge and Airtec twin spec/cooler I doubt would be noticed on the road. As for testing there is a little bit of testing behind the twin spec unit on Airtec's site showing comparisons on a ko3 gti in standard and stage 1 tune I believe.

Obviously these all my views and it's not meant to be a rant, just saying.

I need the big fmic anyway as the plastic end caps on the .:R Probably won't hold up under the higher pressures I'll be wanting.

Hmm, would they do both I wonder?

The plastic end caps will hold just fine and will easily cope with pressures we run our cars at :happy2: They are made of the same plastic as the intake manifold so are very strong.

I have fitted airtec to a couple focus'.

Over all the coolers on the market, this airtec reduced AIT's considerably more than the others on offer.
Build quality was fine & fitment was direct bolt on.

The price was significantly lower than it's competitors.

I have not fiited these to VAG, so cannot comment on fitment etc but I would have no qualms in fitting one on mine

So where are we with this? Edd can you get any cheaper through your source than £450 for the Full FMIC and £410 for the Twin Cooler?

Hurdy mentions he's ordered one for his Golf R from the GB on here, but didn't realise one was happening yet?

Steve Jr is running the THS cooler (same size as the airtec) on his car with over 450bhp and his EGT's and IAT's are low enough, so I doubt that both would be needed.

Look for an update from me Wednesday/Thursday next week with Final prices for the FMIC and the unrated cooler.

OR as E30DOM started the thread and I might not be able to beat the price he got, if your in a rush contact Airtec directly for a FMIC price?

I read a review in redline magazine a fair few months back now which compared th Airtec, forge, Pace and a few other intercoolers when used on a MK2 Ford Focus RS.

iirc the airtec showed decent gains in power and torque but was the worst performing intercooler whne it came to recovery after repeated runs.

The Forge and Pace coolers performed slightly less on the power gains(only marginal iirc) but had much better recovery.

The guys reviewing it were pretty impressed at how well it performed given how chwap it is compared to the others on the market, but i think said something about how the recovery was just as important as gaining power and cooling IATs.

Just something to bear in mind.
