Broken Headlight Lugs
« on: November 22, 2012, 03:09:59 pm »
Is this a common problem with the lights and the repair kit VW has made, how well does it work? I'm looking at some r32 headlights for my gt tdi but they have 2 broken lugs. Can get them for £400 but is it worth it? I don't want to buy and repair them only to find out they don't hold well and rattle. Anyone had any experience with broken lugs?

Not had any experience with broken lugs but i'd say £400.00 is a bit steep for damaged Xenons.

Do they come with the Ballasts, ignitors & bulbs?

Yeah, complete with everything else. There is someone else selling them for £430 with everything plus no broken lugs; but that's 120ish miles away.

I must admit I was surprised to see that VW do a repair kit – pretty good idea I think as lugs are generally quite easy to break on most lights. (not sure why they don’t make them stronger… oh hold on… I get it now… )

I’ve seen pics of them repaired and they do look good (for a repair) – wouldn’t expect them to rattle but as said £400 is a bit steep unless its only one that’s broken?

Got him down to £375, thinking of getting them and using the repair kit. Any advice?

the lugs are probably made to break like that encase some nob gently backs into you, if the lights were on solid plastic brackets and broke everyone would be moaning that you have to replace the whole light, i have had someone do exactly that, didn't know it had happened till i was washing car and headlight was loose, bought the repair kit, still to fit as i need to pop the bumper off one side but they look like there going to do the job ok.

once there on it will be like a new headlight so don't worry if they have broken lugs etc. it can easily be repaired, still might be a tad expensive though

Loads of extra's and retro fits.

went to see them, but the damage was much more than just the lugs; deep scratches, lens shaky inside etc so I didn't take them. This is the 3rd set of lights I've been to see and all 3 were badly damaged. Lol been having bad luck so far.

I ordered a set of the R32/Xenon look Hella lamps - same look with std H7 bulbs. New units and much cheaper than the actual lamps! :)
I did the same as you - looked at genuine lamps with damage - spoke to a couple of breaks - some wanted £750 for a good set - another wanted £300 for a damaged pair, but no ignitors. So decided agains them in the end!

I wanted to get the Hella lamps as well, but I wanted to put a HID kit in them. Having done research I decided to get R32 Xenons instead but I think it might be a while till I find a decent set.
