How to remove wiper arms???
« on: November 23, 2012, 09:39:20 pm »
I need help guys,

Bought Polar FIS last week, just need plugging into can bus gateway. My car is 2008, can bus located behind headlight switch. No chance I can access to it from behind headlight switch. Found guide where its easily accessible from bulkhead. Here is guide http://www.r32oc.com/topic/29242-canbus-gateway-location-removal/
Tried to remove wiper arms and had no success. Sprayed with wd40 left for couple hours and still solid (looks like welded)
bought this tool http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160892030561?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 arrived after 6 days and it is useless. Wont pull arm at all.

Any advice, please?

you can access it from behind the light switch by removing some trim etc and having nimble hands, i only wrote that as an alternative way for mechcanically minded people with big hands like me lol. you need to keep the wd flowing daily and go back to your tool, they'll eventually come they have to, but they are ally and splined on the shaft they can badly corrode together, keep at it

You bought the wrong tool really, I have this and it works every time

I recently replaced my gateway and it is definitely accessible from behind the cubby hole, once you pull forward the plastic frame in the way.
You want to avoid removing the wiper arm if you can.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

What plastic frame you talking about? Is it relay box?

It's above the relays, like an arch. It pulls forward and you can (not easily) get a hand to undo the gateway

I had this trouble when fitting mine last week...

If you take a pair of pliers/ mole grips and place one side underneath wiper arm (by the bolt) and other side on top of the bolt bit (see red arrow), start pulling/ wiggling upwards but at the same time use your other hand and push down on the arm where it bends (see green arrow).

Seems like mission impossible but don't give up. :happy2:
