Brakes & Suspension
« on: November 25, 2012, 01:07:01 pm »
Hi peeps. Not long had my 2008 mk5 remapped (Revo) and loving the extra grunt the car is now producing. However the brakes and suspension are not. They are just not up to the job and before I go ahead with anymore future power mods I thought I better address this problem. Done a bit of looking about and really interested in the NQS BBK upgrade and was wondering from those already using it how good it is ????
But I have no idea what suspension to go for as there is so much out there so I'm looking for recommendations from the people in the know.
Any help would be much appreciated....

Cheers Gee

the NQS BBK is worth every penny. it's feels totally OEM and you can really feel the extra bite the brakes give. if i could do things again tho, i'd wait for a 2nd had 996TT kit to come up. it's basically the same as the NQS BBK, but uses the 996 Turbo calipers and 350mm discs instead. a 2nd hand kit will cost the same as a new NQS.

suspension wise it depends on what you want from it. do you want/need adjustibility? if you do it is widely believed that you opt for some of the more expensive kits, KW V2 etc. if your budget is lower or you don't wish to fiddle then most recommend the Bilstein B12 kit. that said, i have Weitec Hicon GT coilovers and have been very happy with them.

i would recommend if you're having your suspension lowered to get a Whiteline Anti Lift Kit (WALK) fitted at the same time. the reason for this is that it will save you having to get the car realigned a 2nd time when you inevitably decide you want one in a few months time.

happy modding!

Sound advice there.

There are tons of options with suspension. If it is just fast road use I'd go for the B12 Sportline kit, if you want it a bit lower than that then anything from the AP coilovers to Bilstein B14's will be more than up to the job.

Cheers guys. It will be for fast road use only. Only go on track on my bikes lol
The brake kit sounds awesome, just wondering if it will fit with 18" Monza II wheels, or is this just an excuse to get new wheels to lol
And what does the WALK kit do??? Christ I sound like a proper novice here lol

the NQS does fit under both 17" and 18" Monzas without spacers i believe. you will need spacers for the 996 kit

the WALK basically dynamically alters the suspension geometry during cornering to keep more of the tyre in the road i.e. improve grip. at least that's my basic understanding of it. there is loads of information on the forum about it
