Tyres
« on: November 25, 2012, 02:28:11 pm »
Hi, been lurking on here for a while whilst on the lookout for a mk5 and was lucky enough to pick up our mk5 edition 30 yesterday..

I'm looking into tyres at present as the two rear's need replacing. It's currently running toyo proxies all round but the Pirelli p zero's are only a few quid more. On black circles.. So 2 questions for all you lovely people...

What tyres you currently running?

What's your experience with tyres and what would you recommend?

Many thanks

Running Toyo Proxies t1R here and rate them pretty highly ( had them on a few cars to be honest lol ) but they wear quite quickly and I think there's better tyres out there now for roughly the same price.

i had T1-Rs on my car when i bought it 2nd hand from a main dealer. i thought they were good, but swapped to Falken FK452s which i felt were equal in terms of performance. then i swapped to Continental Sport Contact 3s and now i'd stay away from both T1-Rs and Falkens. i went for the because a forum member had purchased them by mistake and was shifting them on cheap. they are a much better tyre,

on the forum the popular debate seems to go between Michelin PS3s and Goodyear Eagle F2s

Federal 595 RS-R were the best tyres I've ever had by far!

PS3's here. Currently running winters (Vreds Wintrac Extremes). Probably give the F2s a try when its time for the snow boots to come off.

X2  :happy2:

Evo magazine tested ALL premium tyres on our very own MK5 GTI and overall found these to be the best after a series of tests. Owners on here also speak highly of them

i ran p zero's on a 2006 mx5 two years ago and thought they were a decent tyre. not the best ive used but for the price i paid in the end for them i couldnt say no.

its in the rain i thought the lacked a little but compared to p6000 you can tell they are better

An I right in sayin that the assy 2 didn't actually win any of the tests but it's was the most consistent getting 2nd and 3rds in most tests? (I'm sure it was on one of the tests). Most of the review magazines now say the differences between the top brands is becoming very small.

I'm running PS3's and can't can't them

I think they may have won one or two of the different tests, but because they were consistently in the top 3 in every test they came 1st overall  :happy2:

Opinions on running 2 different brands on tyres?

I have toyo proxies on the front and may opt for the ps3' s on the rear.

Or hold I jut get proxies so they're the same on all corners?

Thanks again for your input!

I have Goodyear assys 2s on the front and uniroyal rain sport 2s on the rear can't fault either. Had pirellis on before and they were also very good, on the other hand I had falkens on prior to them which I didn't rate much due to grip/road noise

Just about to replace my Goodyear Asy 2's as they are just above the wear markers. I have some Conti 3's on the rear which I hate.

Looking at either Asy 2's again or maybe some PS3's.
