Best way to progress with 70-30 boot rust offer
« on: November 23, 2012, 04:57:28 pm »
Hi. Just been offered the 70-30 "goodwill" repair offer on my boot badge rust.  Obviously I'm not happy about this. I have owned my '05 GTI from new and looked after it well. I don't want to pay for rust repairs on something that is clearly a design fault. I am aware that many people on here have had the same offer and some have actually been able to get it done free of charge. Just wanted some advice on how anyone has managed to do this. I'm guessing that having a moan at VW UK is the way to go. Has anyone got their e-mail address or postal address so I can write a blasting letter to them? If this doesn't work I am willing to write to VW CEO Martin Winterkorn in Germany. I did this once before when I wanted some action taken and it seemed to do the trick!
Advice would be muchly appreciated!

Have a read through that matey. im sure it tells you how to go about getting a 100% payment. vw have just done mine and they paid for it all 100%.
then i wasn't happy with the paintwork so took it back and had it done again..

Thanks, I've seen that and it's more about getting the wings done. I've already had my wings done free of charge with no problem. It's the rust under the boot badge that is my issue. Not much info about that on there and no VW UK contact details either.

I'm suprised they offered 30/70 to be honest, any bolt on part which corrodes is excluded from body warranty, never heard of them paying out on a boot badge before, same with centre caps etc

Sorry, you misunderstand. It's not the boot badge itself, it's the bodywork paint underneath. Water sits in the groove below the badge and causes rust over time. I have heard of people getting this repaired free of charge.

Sorry thought it was the common problem of the boot handle going white.
