Polar fis has f***ed my car (more faults now)
« on: November 27, 2012, 07:31:54 pm »
I installed a polar fis + advanced box to my car today

First of all when I tried to change the peramiters it hung on this screen

And didn't do anything after that

I was able to get the preset peramiters on screen 1

And set the Bluetooth menu

I tried dissconectIng everything and reconnecting to see if that worked

But I now have an airbag warning light and I can't access any of the standard menus that I had before on the mfd

Anyone had this issues or know how to fix them?

When you disconnect your gateway and reconnect it you may see a multitude of vcds errors that don't reappear after clearing them. This may be happening with you.

As for the polar, if you press the ok button on your mfsw when on your first screen, do you get to the configuration menu? If the answer to the question is yes, scroll down till you reach update>press ok then click ok in the update screen (don't attach your laptop via usb cable when prompted to do so). This should reboot the unit and hopefully solve your polar problem.

Did you install the correct firmware? It's red_dot for a mk5 gti and ed30.

Ok looks like you need more specialised help!
I suggest you join the Polar forum now and post your problem in full.  http://www.auto-polar.com/forum/forum.php
I'm sure mun the programmer for polar will see your post and offer a personalised service to fix your issue. He may want you to run their specific tool to gain more insight.
If you have access to vcds then posting up a full scan may also help sorting matters.

I joined the forum and posted the same on there

I don't have acess to VCDS

I have a diagnostic scanner on my bluefin so I will see if that finds any codes and cleares them

It's started bucketing down here now so I will hopefully manage to remove the polar box tomorrow to see if that makes any difference

Just a thought but I have a newer canbus module fitted to my car to prevent battery drain for the rcd510

Would that cause any issues?

The newer canbus shouldn't be an issue with the latest version 3.0 firmware as the previous beta had this in it's change list: Solved issues with gateways 7N0 907 530 x that causes a misfunctiones of Polar FIS and didn't activate telematiks module in the gateway

fwiw I'm using an old 1K0 907 530 F canbus gateway with my rns510 and have no battery drain issues.
