Dear all.

This is Ismael from Auto-Polar, and I want to make clear that I speak on behalf of the company.
As a party involved in the case of this thread, we don't want to get into a discussion, but we'd like to give our version of the events.

First of all, we must to apologize because we know that our products are not 100% free of issues, as it happened to Baz300, however, it's impossible to be 100% sure that a box it's not damaged during, manufacturing or shipping. We test all boxes in a car before shippment, however, as I said, sometimes a unit can fail.

Appart of that, I'd like to clarify that normally when you buy a product and it's defective, most of the companys, request to send back the defective product, and then proceed to send a new/repaired one. In our case, we usually send a new unit to the customer and solve the issue, and after that proceed to talk with the custormer to return the defective unit, and it's what we've done in this case.

As I said, the first unit was defective and unfortunatelly, it caused a fault in the airbag ecu that switched on a warning light in the instruments cluster, of course, this fault was caused by a defective unit, we are completelly agree with that and there's no discussion about it. However we are not agree with the next events.

When the customer started a thread in our forum, we being to request some test to know the causes of the issue, because sometimes it's caused by a wrong tightness of connectors, or diagnostics tools connected to the OBD port during the initial start up of the box.

During theese tests, the customer said us that he think that the issue can be caused because he had changed the original gateway of his car by one modern unit, and our technicians answered that this model was supported and it's not the cause of the issue. However the user chaged to the original gateway and after that to the newer unit, then comes a new problem, he lost the AUDIO menu in the FIS screen, and directly attach this problem to the Polar FIS unit.
This was replied by our technicians, the problem was due to remove the gateway, and not related with Polar FIS, Gateway is likelly a HUB that joint all car buses, and sometimes, removing it, cause faults in communications as in this case, the customer siimply remove the fuse (as well as if you reset the RNS it will sove it) and the problem was fixed.

Also during theese test he bought a VCDS cable to erase the stored faults caused by the first unit, we never request him to buy a cable, because we knew that he hasn't VCDS cable and our intention was erase that faults from the Polar FIS once have solved the issue with the defective unit. Once again, there was no communication with us, so we can't do anything on that point.

After some days of test, we deduce that the unit or cable was defective and talked with him to replace it, directly we request him an address and proceed to send a new unit (box+cable). After receive this new unit, the customer writes us, indicating that there is a little gap between the pcb inside and the casing, which causes some movement of the pcb, which produces a small noise, and ask if it's safe to install, or if it can damage the box. Our reply was that this is safe, because it's a small gap between box and pcb, there many units with this gap, and no one user has reported us a issue related to this, however there is a warranty in that case.

Then, the customer, doesn't want to accept this box, and remember us the unit costs, sorry, but we don't think that this is a problem, a small gap smaller than 1mm. However, you can make the same with many electronic products cheaper and more expensive, shake it and you'll hear a small noise.
However, we said him if he can put a point of silicone, or change the casing and use the casing of the old unit. But he didn't want to do that, he want that we send a third unit. I'd like to indicate that we've never removed the warranty to a box for a broken warranty seal, because they're very delicate and sometimes brokes by itself, in fact, we've never refused a warranty.

At this point, we don't want to send a new box, the user still didn't confirm if this new unit is working properlly or not, and after that we've seen that he has no intention to send back the defective unit, because he is selling it, so we assume that we'll send a third box and maybe it have another problem for him, and in view of the events, we'll lose another unit. And even less when it's under threats of bad publicity (wich it has done since before reaching this impasse)

At last we think, that we've done all possible to help him from the fisrt minute, and there's only needed to see our forum. All people that want to see it only need to check our forum and see that there is no question/issue/improvement that be unanswered, and all the issues are fixed.

Best regards.

I did not want to install the second box into my car because of the noises it makes

I do not want to take the chance of it breaking anything I have told you this on many occasions.

I am now using the 7no gateway again and still do not have the audio menu!

I can't believe you advise customers to open up a product and apply some silicone to glue the circuit board in place.

This is the last I will say in the matter I just wanted to share my experience with a polar fis box to let other people know what might happen after they invest £220 in a box.

The fact that you stopped communicating with me and locked my thread in your forum is what has annoyed me the most.

I had never been asked to return the first box

I aske for either the second box to be swapped out for another one or to be refunded and send both boxes back. I was told that I must pay postage both ways to have a replacement box as my standards and expectations seem to be too high

Also please note that I did not put the first box up for sale until this weekend as I had not heard anything from yourselves Nd need to try and claim some of the money I have spent on 2 very expensive paperweights

X2, I was looking into buying one for the R, but scrap that!

Out of interest, why not just design the case with two threaded plastic bosses and screw the PCB to it? The only time that I've ever come across loose/interference fit PCB's is in really cheap applications/products.
If you have to ask why, you'll never understand.

not the best response to an issue.

surely after the first unit failed, extra effort should have gone into the replacement.

Hi Baz300.

Of course you can share your experience, but please, let us do the same. However, it's our last post, because our intention is to give our version as I said before, because I think you didn't tell everything in your posts.

However, I can't help you if you don't let me help. The thread is closed because we don't go to accept threats, and the thread was clearly in a dead point. But communication is not stopped we're talking by PMs.
You're not banned in the forum, and you can open another thread to get assitance to solve the issue with the AUDIO menu in the FIS, we'll be happy to assist you to solve it. We didn't get any notice that you've this issue, so we can not assist you on that.

At last, the silicone is not the only possibility, we talked about try with the first unit, because, most probably is that in this unit only damaged is cable and it can work perfectly with the new cable, or simply change the casing, but no one of this solutions is valid for you.

About been asked to return the first box, I've explained that in my preious post, we didn't get a feedback of the new unit, so our first priority was to solve the issue and then talk about return it, in the same way, I can say that you didn't ask us that you can sell it, however, it's common sense, I think it's not necessary to be explained, or if you just decided to sell it I think that you can ask before.

Once again, I invite to all that wants to check the forum and see that there's no one problem without response or solution.

Best regards.

If i had bought something that expensive, to be told to open the case and glue it in place is absurd!! Can you imagine samsung telling you to do that with a tv?!  :stupid:

It seems that polar are trying to make u look bad when clearly they are at fault a lot reading there replys

When I buy something if its 1p or a grand I expect it to be working fully and not rattling about and if its wrong the company should goto the moon and back to resolve and even losing a few quid on postage should never be a issue but it seems it is

Since u had 3 already it seems more than 1 is faulty :(

At 220 and the replys and kinda lack of respect and help to resolve shows that polar don't really care once they go your 220

By fixing a product by using a broken product to make 1 work is serously out of order more a joke if u ask me :( very bad thing to say online or at all to thousands of future And current customers awful if u ask me and using silicone to fix a problem is very wrong cause if u open it up it makes the product invalid and no warranty which it looks like they want h to do :( then they win with not paying out as u tampered with product and on a downside if u tamper with electronics it could damage or even set the car on fire In worst case scenario :(

Polar should resolve at any issue regardless of cost time and efforts to keep there name in tact lad

If any big name company tried this they would be taken to cleaners for miss selling and selling faulty products
Hope u get it sorted lad

I said on several occasions that I did not want to plug the second unit into my car because of the loose circuit board and anything could be worn or damaged and you kept telling me that this is normall and is not a fault. What if it fries my ECU? Wil auto polar pay for the repairs of that or just blame something else?

So I have no idea if it works or not

You kept telling me that you did not understand me but going by your replys on here you understand English very well!

I am still not willing to plug this ino my car!

If your product is not 100% then you should not be selling it to the general public

No one replied to my PM s or emails that I send until today that's over a week!

You keep blaming other things on the faults that have been caused IE the can gateway

I feel you have just came on here to try and blame everything on me,

At this point in time I just want my money back not pay another £50 on courier costs sending a box which you say is not faulty to receive what I have paid for in the first place.

I have no trust in a company that thinks the ratteling inside the box is acceptable

Please communicate with me by email, I have sent you plenty of emails that have not been replied to

In fairness to Baz he isn't the only person on here reporting problems with the Polar FIS.

I don't know what the current situation with Romany's Golf is as that was fooked the last time I saw it.

I'm so glad that I didn't pursue the idea of changing my Mid-line to a High-line by swopping clock modules just so I could then buy a Polar! I'm sure that some people have done exactly this and if you add up the total costs you could buy a Quaife diff or some other more rewarding mod for that kind of money.

What's the unit that Hurdy runs?
