What are the chances of me getting a 47inch tv in the back of my 3 door Golf...?

I think you might struggle. 

An old skool 42" will sit across the back seat in it's packaging. You might be able to remove the packaging and get it in.

Don't lay it flat though.

My 42" in its box just about went in the golf stood upright. Had to feed it in at an angle tho.

Not in the box. No chance. My 42" hung out the back of my Cordy by about a foot with the seats down. Ok if you don't mind tying the tailgate down though.

It went in like a glove. 

The golf has surprised reloads with what it's able to carry, it's had to go help a friend outside Ikea who couldn't get stuff in his focus boot.

Lol in the packaging screen facing up I doubt the glass will flex enough to break. Well I know It won't, I have carried many a screen with no issues. It's just a precaution that so long as your not a idiot on the way home you can ignore.
