They have a load rating of 91 which should be ok as my eagle f1s have a load rating of 92

I've always been under the impression that any Tyre fitted whether it be winter/summer/all season etc. had to meet Manufacturers specifications: including dimensions, load index, speed rating etc. for insurance purposes.

I don't think the standard GTI tyre was extra load, so anything above 88 iirc should be fine.

The way I'd look at it, is if there is decent tread on them, 6/7/8mm then your going to be paying at least £100 each for them brand new at this time of year... so even if you don't like the steelies in the future you can always swap them to some alloys, happy in the knowledge that you haven't really paid anything for them.

If they fit, buy 'em, fit 'em and stay safe :)

With snow tyres you can drop down a speed rating but the loading deck has to be similar

thanks for all the replies guys big big help
I needed urgent help on this due to nearly crashing yesterday twice and have had 33 replies in 12 hours so great help
will go and buy the tyres in the pics as long as the tread is at least 6mm
looks like there is oil on them from storage but will wash off ok and as said before if I really do not like the wheels then at £400 I can buy alloys later

once again many thanks and just goes to show how usefull these kinds of forums are especially this one

I would save your money and just leave the snow tyres on the steel rims  :happy2:

yes I will do that just now, prob wont look to bad tbh but it at least gets me safe, someone posted a pic in the first page or so, a mock up with the rims on the car, don't look to bad tbh.
was concerned as the tyres say m&s on them and wasn't sure if they where recommended for mud and snow and so not actually a dedicated snow tyre but I have read a few tyre tests and they seem to be one of the better ones out there

Just do what I did. Running the monzas with a new set of winters. Gives me an excuse to get a new set of rims in the spring!

I had the first F1's on my old mk5 and you are right they were so bad in the snow, absolutely amazing in all other conditions but when we got some bad snow i could barely get it out of the street,it was so embarassing that when it snowed again i left it on the drive.

got the tyres and wheels fitted this evening,
what a nightmare man,
the guys trolley jack packed in, eventually got it to work then we lost my locking wheel nut key lol
both of us crawling around the snow with torches for 30 minutes, finally found it.
brand new tyres basically and as he said brand new rims although they are steelies but at £400 for the lot it is a good deal
was great guy, very honest, 2 little kids and he then asked me if I was ok with the price at £400, was my opportunity to get it down to £300 poss
tbh it is a good price and I wasn't gonna rip the guy off so I told him £400 was fine, just a nice guy with a 1 year old and a 4 year old so I didn't have the heart lol.
was confused when I took the alloys off as the steelies didn't fit, then seen the red spacer from the back of the alloys where still attached to the wheel, didn't know about them.
anyway the difference is night and day with regards to grip, very happy with them
the steelies look pretty sh*t tbh but I may look for a set of second hand alloys
anyway my wheels need a major wash and wax

as you can see
anyway I have grip but have lost my ooh la la

they need covered in tyre dressing and a wash, will do soon, will make them look a bit better lol
I tell you driving to his house half a mile away I could not go past 10mph with my summers on, absolutely brilliant on the way back though.
the f1s are brilliant until you get a breath of snow, then they should have a safety warning attached to them.

now I need a set of second hand 16 inch alloys, something cheap but looks good
any special fitment I need or is it just any 16 inch wheels
