It's easier on newer cars. The 'banjo' bolt is tricky on older ones. There's a very long thread somewhere, detailing an absolute nightmare with this. I think he had to buy at least one new fuel pump.

Also, having 98 RON injected directly into your bloodstream results in death, I think.

Maybe I won't do it myself... :scared:

Is 99 V-Power ok? Nah, think I'll let the garage do it too

Really nothing to panic about when doing these.  Just have some rags handy to soak up the fuel.  Cover the pressure release nipple when prssing it then the fuel goes directly into the rag.

Older banjo fitting takes me around 5 mins longer than the rubber fitting.  Just have some nifty tools to get it done fast.

^^^ Post up a photo please.

I'm going to order a follower from the dealer and change it myself.
Is it an easy job to do? My car will be hitting 80k soon so better get this done as a precaution.

Don't suppose you or somebody could do a how to guide for us all???!!

http://myfastgti.com/volkswagen/threads/12734-DIY-HPFP-Removal-and-Cam-Follower-Replacement

The only thing that worries me is depressuring the system fully, don't fancy fuel in ma face... or a monumental fuel leak...

Providing you make use of the bleed nipple then this will not be a worry :happy2: But wearing eye protection would help for this part of the job.

That Banjo Bolt is something else...there have been a couple of DIY's that have been documented going wrong, mainly the compression fittings leaking afterwards.

My first Cam Follower failed with Auto Tech pump, Stage 2+, on track at Snetterton, my own fault as it was never changed and done quite a few track days  :ashamed:

Unfortunately a year and a few track days later the second one failed, this time with an APR Pump

Both times needed engine strip down (by KPM Racing) they change their race cars cam followers after every race weekend, for the sake of £25 and an hours work I'll be changing mine after every track day next year  :happy2:

p.s. don't open the car door with the pump off, it will prime it.

Jabbasport did mine before the remap in May, no signs of wear at all, but for the sake of £50 for preventative measure I was happy to do it.

As my car is in for the repairs to the front grill tomorrow I am having the cam follower replaced at the same time.
I am interested to see its condition after 83k and almost 7 years! (assuming it hasnt been changed, the serv history suggests it hasnt)

as per my previous post..... here is a pic of my cam follower, replaced today!

IIRC  diesels have a very different fuelling system and don't have the same sort of high pressure fuel pump like the TFSI's.

I think the mk4 150bhp diesel had a similar problem though  - I've not heard of anything like this failing on mk5 diesels so don't worry  :happy2:

Thanks
