poor FM with pioneer avh 2400 bt
« on: November 29, 2012, 10:22:57 am »
Hi Guys,

After thinking about a new head unit, i had rcd 300

i went for a avh 2400 bt due to cost etc etc.

well now FM reception is very poor, only very local stations come up

they struggle to do text and radio one is terrible.

the installer at car electronics nottingham said they always have trouble with vw and audi.

well they say that now its fitted they said nothing before.

also it sits a bit "deep" in the dash not flush like the other one.

the sound is good but overall let down by the radio?!?!

any tips hints on how to fix this or do i just get them to take the lot out?

please help!?!?!

cheers

I've got the same head unit and not had any issues, though radio use is limited. The fit is fine as well, though its never going to be as nice as an OEM unit.

I went to a professional installer and tbh not overly impressed.

I was going to go for RCD510 but then they say the OE amps are not that good.

i also had my amp and sub fitted too.

the reception IS important.

if he cannot fix it i will take the whole lot back, fingers crossed......

Hi Lone Par,

Have you got any pics of it fitted?

Mine sits about  four five mm in the dash adapter and mine does not use the original cage or surround?

Cheers

Just replaced one of these yesterday with an Alpine ICS-X8 App Link Radio. It was only 2 months old, but customer had enough of it for various reasons, one was lack of integration with the dash display. He called me last night raving about how awesome the Alpine was and how much better than the Pioneer. If you do take it back, get one of the new Alpine's instead. This was in a Vauxhall, btw. The radio reception was ok, not great, but ok and that was with everything correctly hooked up, etc. Seems like the unit itself could have a weak radio tuner then.

As for the way the radio sits in the dash, you can adjust it by taking the unit out and realigning the clips on the sides. Sounds like shoddy work to me if someone hasn't aligned it correctly to sit flush. I couldn't handle that tbh, it would drive me up the wall.

Avante, thanks very much!

I went back and they changed the aerial adaptor for aanother one? connect2 or something.

well the reception is now alot better, i can do bsm and it picks up all the stations now with RDS.

Like they say with the diversity aerials etc and factory units its not going to be the same. I have to accept this.

pity as my old mk1 with beesting and single din pioneer had fantastic reception!! new is better?!?!?!

anyway they also changed the surround and it now uses the original cage and trim panel so it now sits better, nit recessed.

Overall, now quite satisfied, sound is ofcourse ALOT better with the pioneer and i had them fit my sub and amp and rear view camera.

I did want the kenwood vehicle specific one, but cost was an issue there, got this lot all doen for half the price and one year guarantee. :drinking:

sorted.

Thanks once again for your comments guys.
