in tank lift pumps becoming a problem?

Guys as some of you may know my eddie is sick..

After lots of work, coil packs, low pressure sensor, fuel filter etc

faults we had are "low pressure fuel fault"
Eml wasnt on straight away, had a missfire at around 3k rpm and this was intermittent in terms of missfire
Fuel consumption went out the window..

Anyway, we heard a whine from rear of the car (like wipers on a old car, up whine,down whine noise)
After a friend speaking to forge and there demo car having the same fault previously  they said there in tank lift pump went.
So im on the lookout for a in tank lift pump as mines dodgy (see wanted section)
I have removed mine after swapping from a friends car with a working one the golf seems ok   (still need a new one tho as we just swapped to test)
It seems the car runs fine....

Reason for thus thread is that i couldnt find any info from searching on here and google,.
Being that forge had the same issue on there demo and revo having it on a previous car im starting to wonder weather tuned gti like ours are coming prone to lift pumps when tuned?
Need to try and see if this starting to become a problem on 56+ years cars?

Your having EXACTLY the same problems / symptoms as me, I hope the in tank pump fixes yours and I'll do the same

Was it difficult to get the pump out?

Whats the part number?

Do you know how much they are?

I THINK i read that steve p had a uprated one fitted? Maybe look down that route?

Here is a new part number 1k0 919 051 db
As for price its hard to sat but my mates friend payed 136.80, he may have got discount as hes from a big company and i also get discount being a ex vw employee, id say 150 max tho

I've not had one fail yet,  but they become weaker over time and not to say they dont fail though.   The latest pump looks loads better than the old ones.  Deffo spend the money on a new one.  I can do them for around 10% off retail.  Would need to check the exact price though.

Fairly easy to change.  Just be careful and keeps loads of rag around incase you spill fuel.  I take the pumps out and put them straight in a bucket.

I run a pump from another vag car that will hold higher pressure, buts it's only needed on higher powered cars plus its nearly £300!
