Can you buy an 18" spare steelie wheel?
« on: December 06, 2012, 07:24:46 am »

Can you buy one of the above, and will it fit into the wheel-space in the boot?

A prt number would also be very useful. Just dawned on me that my car came with 17" Monzas, and I've now got 18" Pescaras. Doh! I'm assuming my spare is a 17".

fwiw cars that originally came with 18" Monzas didn't have an 18" spare but just a space saver...

What's important is not the spare rim diameter but its tyre rolling circumference.

Phaetons have the option of a 5.5x18 space saver - as do some of the mk2 Audi TT's

Indeed, I have 18" wheels but I'm pretty sure my space saver is 16" with a 65 tyre wall.

Well, I went and checked it and fitted it and it was an 18" space saver, max speed 50!

So I guess it must have come with 18's originally, and the previous owner burgled them and left the car on Dinky Toy 17's!

This is the reason why the Pescara is off the car, currently at Wicked Wheels, Guildford:

Forced into the kerb by a stupid bint in a XC90. She could barely see over the wheel, and just drove at me! It was the wheel or the wing mirror and possibly wing, so the wheel got it I'm afraid!

You need to put the space saver on the rear mate & replace it with a rear. Never use a space saver on a front wheel drive always swap one from the back. Pain in the a**e but makes sense when you think about it.

I was wrong, mine has an 18" space saver. Car came on 17" Monzas though. Perhaps 18" was standard back in 05/06?

......... :happy2:. Not good to have all the power/braking/steering going through one normal size tyre & the other a skinny saver.

Mine too. So yes you can get 18inch space savers, however you can get a Full size 18 and boot foam thing (all oem) to fit inthe boot, there was one for sale on the FS section not too long ago.
