vw chelmsford did my wings under warranty and then i paid to have my bonnet and bumper and splitter done. I paid an extra £650 for the bonnet bumper and splitter but dont know how much the wings would have been if id have paid myself... prob another £400-£500.

Quality of work is excellent... bit of polishing i needed to do to get it to my standard but paint finish and colour match were spot on

Ive got a car park dent on my left rear quarter so went in for a quote, whilst there I got a quote for the whole from end including bonnet due to stone chips etc, and it he said £450 for it. good quality job too, he does most of the cars for Audi locally. I didnt think that was too bad.

Where from? Is this in the South/South East

unfortunately not no! Its in the Lake District, hes just down the road from Lindale Audi, friend who works there recommended him because they've never had an issue with his work. He seemed pretty switched on when I dropped in for a quote

I’ve been thinking about this too as my car has lived on the motorway and the bonnet in particular is looking like it could do with a spruce up.

One thing that no one seems to have mentioned is resprays and resale. I appreciate that all of what is being said here is to enhance the look of the car rather than to put right some damage but as a buyer I’m always wary of a car that looks too clean.

An alternative is to have chips touched in and wet & dry polished by a detailed. Anyone else thought about this and relative costs?

Only really possible if there are a handfull of chips and the chip is big enough to get paint in. If its more like a road rash then respray is the best option.

agreed, just tell the buyer and it will actually help you sell not the other way round

X3. I consider any decent paintwork job a good thing. Make sure it's not hiding any nasties up :happy2: but I'm sure if a reputable garage were to perform the work you wouldn't feel bad! :)

I would rather sell the new R, I just want to try and keep my ed30  mint and rather than leave it to become a bigger job id rather keep on top of it and spend some money now.

As I said, you will have to do some serious work to get the paintwork matching the rest of the panels after a respray. The other thing you need to consider is after a respray, your making the paintwork even softer showing up more chips and road rash!.

I considered this hugely, but was told by several people in the know, that respraying is the absolute last result.

@scooba , you have a Pm fella, I would let my recommendation look at it, and let him see it . Yours doesn't sound as bad as mine was and that your best of going for polish and paint correct, and have the chips wet sanded.

Is his red as well?  As admittedly this is the hardest colour, but a decent bodyshop will get it right, so you couldn't see.  A correctly done respray will blend perfectly. :happy2:

so if your car is resprayed in any area by the insurance company after a knock are you saying the paint will then be softer and then more prone to chips etc ?
I didn't know that, I just presumed it would be sealed like factory ?

The more paint you add, the softer it will be.

If the re-spray process is done correctly, the finish will be as good if not better than factory.  Steve Im not sure who youve been speaking to, but maybe you want to come and see some of the paintwork that comes out of our paintshop :happy2:
