oil change video

can anyone help in locating a video on how to do an oil change on a mk5 gti.
trying to decide if It is worth me buying the parts myself but cant find a vid anywhere

yeah I need a vid walkthrough.
just bought the oil, £46 for 4 litres sigh, top oil though.
need to buy a filter
but I would also need a oil tray, oil filter removal tool, to be safe a new sump plug and washer ( would be knackered if that threaded )
also something to alloy me to get under the car as all I have is the standard vw jack, not got round to buying a trolley jack or axle stands yet.
that's a fair few quid there so hence my indecision.

If you just type in "how to perform an oil change" you should get a video of someone doing it, all be it on another car but the principle is the same:

1) run the engine until the OIL is warm (take it for a 15min drive)
2) remove under tray (if present ) to gain access to the sump drain plug
3) remove filler cap from top of engine
4) remove sump plug an leave oil to drain out (give it a good 30mins to get it all out)
5) remove oil filter (can be done with clean dry hands usually) - will have some oil in so watch out!!
6) replace oil filter with new (remember to put a film of the old oil on the rubber seal
7) replace sump plug
top up oil from top with fresh - don't overfill!!!
9) take it for a drive, leave for 5mins and check level, top up as necessary.

Remember,  MAX -MIN on the dipstick is 1 litre of oil

Hope you actually bought 5 litres of oil as a full oil change including filter needs 4.6-4.7 litres .

Gray - I think it's best to drain & remove the filter before draining the sump.

You're supposed to use a new sump plug & washer each time. I doubt this is critical though.

Are you sure?? Wouldn't all the oil in the sump then flow out of the place where you removed the oil filter from? (unless the filter isn't on the sump?)

I've never changed the oil myself on the GTI, only on old fiestas etc and the filter was on the sump and thus requires the oil to be drained from the sump before removal

thanks guys. im sure there is some kind of pinch valve on the gti underneath, which you need a specific tool for but im not sure, this is whats holding me back, really need a vid to be sure, cant believe I cant find one for this type of car

The filter housing has a bleed/drain valve/nipple.  Good practice to drain the filter housing then the sump.
You can buy a tool that makes draining the filter housing a little less messy it's just a threaded cap with a vacuum tube attached to direct the oil to your waste oil pan

Ecs also now make a sump plug with built in tap to make draining even more straightforward. Bit gimmicky IMO but a cool idea.

32mm (or 36mm)  filter hosing socket £7.99

Filters are about £9

Oil £50

And off you go!

Don't worry about the drain plug or washer, used the same one on my 8v mk3 gti for last 8 years.

Gh, the drain tap sounds ace, just don't forget to close it!!!
