I was wondering this. I've been driving like my nan since my last fill up and I got 28mpg.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't buy the car for the mpg but was More interested in exactly what I could achieve and apparently it's not a lot!

I'm guessing all your roads are better looked after than up here in Aberdeenshire.

I have around 3 miles of road that has been covered in ice every morning at 5.30 when I go to work then a dual carriageway that only 1 lane has been treated after that I'm lucky if I can get to 50mph on the way to work everyday (-7 this morning)

Averaging over 35mpg just now on the screen

Got over 40mpg average on the 60 mile journey to drop my son off on Sunday and that's all A roads

Dont worry, your not the only one. I would say my average is 280-300 per tank.

I have used the 'Road Trip' app on my iphone since i bought the ED30. Over 5,922 miles i have av 25.69 mpg, spending £1,524.95 on v-power tesco 99.

Hopefully the full service, with new plugs, filters etc will pick it up alittle.

Am amazed just how frugal my car can be when I (or it) wants to be. Usually get 290-300 per tank and I am never A out of town so always stop/start but have spent the last week driving up and down the motorway network at 65-70 mph and am have been seeing 39mpg on the magical display.

Oh and worst i got was 180 from a tank, the week after I bought it!

You can get an easy 700 miles per tank in my wife's 320d - you don't even have to try. Tom Ford got over 1000 miles in a 320d Efficient Dynamics!

Why do you have a GTI if you drive it normal all the time....surely you would be best with a 1.8 Diesel if mileage is what its all about for you.

I always use tesco momentum or v power. Had mine 2 years and its always consistently good on MPG. I get 340 miles to a full tank.
Always stop start journeys to work, around 9 miles, rarely go on the motorways, but when I have the return is greater. This is with a mixture of driving. Stock GTI.

Unless your Nan likes her trackdays, that's pretty poor - I can easily get 35MPG, over 40 on a run with no more than 70mph...  it's all about the amount of throttle, anticipating slowing down etc. etc.

I found it better after Stage 1 than stock for the sensible driving....

For mixed driving pushing on a bit using the torque band, around 30-33MPG is usual.

Completely tearing it up and it's mid teens  :driver:

MUCH better than my mates ST though... I couldn't get it over 30MPG... and had it down to 9MPG over a few miles of spirited driving... all in all I reckon the ST is ~ 7-10MPG worse than the GTI.  And now I'm on Stage 1 the GTI is quicker too.

A full service can never harm.

But honestly, your bearly getting the car up to temperature on these colds days, I'm not surprised your getting bad fuel consumption.

Get an electric car :)  Or ride :)

Since moving to cornwall (lots of windy up and down hills B roads) in the crap weather we are having I am averaging 26.7mpg so around 270 miles per tank in the Edition 30 driving like miss daisy, on a recent run on the A30 (dual carriageway) I averaged 32mpg.  :happy2:

The best I saw in Norfolk during summer (Nice and warm and very flat roads) was 370 miles and I was not driving like miss daisy either  :signLOL:
