Did a 70 mile journey today with mainly dual carrigeway (2 up, winter tyres 40PSI, half tank of vPower, outdoor temp 9*C, little wind, heating on 19*C, xenons on) with some town... overall... 41.1 MPG!!

Stage 1 with Pre-Cat delete... was effin' boring though, lol.  The odd flutter to 85mph to overtake but mostly 65mph and a few 50 zones just coasting.

Mad what you can get out of these when your being very sensible, anticipating the traffic, brushing the throttle!  Try above with an ST and you'd be very lucky to get 30-33MPG

Based on 41.1MPG and a 12.1 gallon tank that would be just under 500 miles to a tank....but I honestly don't think I could last a whole tank driving like that... very relaxing though!  And it's not like your holding anything up.

For those interested, I was keeping revs, 99% of the time below 3k.. and averagely 'probably' around 2 - 2.5k... YEAP, mega boring but this is an MPG thread, hehe.

I notice anything above 3k really starts to destroy the MPG figures.  But TBH, that's enough torque and power for most everyday driving situations.

I very rarely fill up completely when at home as its not worth it but day to day we average 27mpg. Recently went from Cumbria to Kent and managed about 360 before I felt like I should fill up, I think that was about 33-35mpg ave for the journey.
I never used to use "premium" petrol as a rule until I read a thread on here recently about the effects it has so currently in a long term trial using V-power, so far over 2 months I can't say i've noticed any difference in mpg but I must admit the car does feel a little sharper, but that it all.

***Update***

After nearly 3 months of using V-power and nothing else all I can say is I'm amazed, car feels better (not loads like) but best of all I've seen an increase of nearly 3mpg on what is mainly short journeys and town driving and it's still on the up.

I drove to Cornwall and managed 400 miles from a full tank with a smidge of town driving included. So that is about 36mpg which I was pretty stoked with!

All I can say is you guys are doing well.

I drive very slow in my 1.6 fsi, and for £10 (of Shell V Power @ 138.9) I get pretty much exactly 50 miles.
Sig to big.

That's about 32mpg, based on 1.58 gallons ... Just shows you how a turbo can help economy.

I've just worked out that based on my current mileage of about 6k using V-power will save me approx £60 a year.

In the summer you will get even better - i used to get 42-43mpg (got 45mpg once over 170miles) with cruise control set at 70 (speedo)mph, with a couple of 50mph runs through roadworks. Decent mpg is what the TFSI engine is all about, the right amount of fuel at exactly the right time :happy2: - i dont find you get anywhere any quicker going 80mph, speeding up, slowing down constantly. May as well just stick at 70 and relax  :rolleye:

MPG only takes a hit when WOT or from cold  :sad1:

My old ST used to get max of about 36mpg on V-power  :sad1:

re miles out of a tank: 480 was my best on a long steady drive from Cheshire to north of scotland  :drinking:

Mines a TDI 170 and I filled up with £70 worth of diesel, drove 510 miles until the light came on.

Consisted on urban driving and some "spirited" driving!  so could expect more if on a long journey.

Last car was an A3 2.0 TSFI and lucky if I got 300 miles out of it so quite happy with that !

Can you not trick the fuel computer anyway.... Get the engine up to temp sit at 55mph or so the instant fuel economy reading is very good then hit the re set button on both of the 1 and 2 settings... I think this alter's the computers tank range figure...

Side question..

Does anyone know what you get out of a tank in a Golf R on a long dull run?

Would like one as my next car but if the fuel is anywhere close to being as bad as my old Scooby was, I will probably end up buying a Mk6-7 GTI instead.

I get around 380 - 400 but I do get really bored and it can go down to 300 :surprised:

The best I have ever got is 480 but I felt like killing myself!!!

worst 100miles, best 400

I bet that was the best worst mpg youve ever done though Gaz

Best and worst for the R ....

125miles and 365miles - I'll leave it to your own conclusions which was the best and worst

Normally I'm getting just 230-250 from a full tank of 60 litres. Rough yardstick is 17-22mpg around town and 25-33 mpg on the motorway depending on whether i drive like Miss Daisy or Vin Diesel in his Fast and Furious days.  :innocent:
Golf R gone.
