Hi All - New to the forum and hopefully sticking around
« on: December 13, 2012, 09:49:09 pm »
Hi Everyone,

Just thought I would say hello. I'm currently looking at a Mk5 GTi being my next car after I sort myself out and get my current car sold.

At the minute I have a Renault Sport Clio 197 and absolutely love it but that time has come where im ready for a change and im thinking the Mk5 GTi is for me.

Anyway only a quick message to say hello and upload a couple of pictures of my current car.

Thanks
James

Thanks very much.

I just can't decide whether to look out for a manual or DSG?

The clio exterior looks the nuts! But that interior  Did they just not bother? I like the carbon but its just so basic!

Are you looking for an edition 30 or just a GTi?

DSG or Manual depends - Just normal driving or track use too?  :happy2:

Welcome

As Chris says, the GTI interior is in a different league to the Clio. Everything is solid and good quality. The rest of the car isn't bad either...

DSG - this has been debated ad nauseum; take a long test drive and see if you like it.

Thanks for all the replies.

They the Clio is nice but the interior.........Every works and functions as it should but they have used horrible/cheap materials and stuck things on with chewing gum haha.

I think I'm looking for a standard GTi trouble is money at the minute so I am only looking around £8k which I know is only going to get me a high mileage Golf.

It would be used solely on the road, no track days so I think I will take a couple out for test drives but to be honest I'm leaning more towards manual but don't want to feel I'm missing out on the DSG.

Around 8k should get you a low mileage example if that's what you're after. For example I have a steel grey 07 plate with 36k miles and I'm thinking of selling and I would be lucky to get 9k for it.

Edit: Just looked on parkers and i would get around 8k trade in so would be around 8.5k for private sale.

Evening all,

I also wondered how you made your decision between a 3 and 5 door? I have always been against 5 doors and thought 3 doors had that 'sporty' edge about them but have recently found myself looking at 5 doors as well as 3 doors and have been thinking that maybe I could be happy with a 5 door.

Thanks
James

5 doors are much more practical.
3 doors look sportier. Although the 5 door isn't ugly by any means.

Are there any 'performance' differences between the two versions?

?????
The 5 door might be handier if you enjoy dogging?
