bonnet bra's,,, cant decide if they look cool or not
« on: December 17, 2012, 12:48:42 am »
apologies if this thread has been done before but I couldn't find it on the search
I am trying to decide if the bonnet bra looks cool or not,
seemingly there is a few different ones out there for the gti, plain, ribbed and also seen a gti logo one.
if anyone has pics of different coloured gti's with a bra on that would be great.
have also seen a few comments regarding the strapping that holds it onto the car can actually rub against the paint with possible damage !! that could be untrue though I don't know tbh.
anyway would value any input guys
 :happy2: :happy2:
ps,,,, naming it something other than a BONNET BRA  :surprised: :surprised: would have been a good idea lol

Tbh i think they look total toss buuut i do run one on long  motorway journeys. For me its there to do a job and not about looks. It comes off as soon as i arrive at my destination. Tbh its down to personal preference imo.

Yeah, it's a resounding no from me. If you want to protect the bonnet invest in something like Venture Shield.

I've seen these posts on loads of forums and 90% of people hate them for one reason or another , they don't like the look ,they tell you they mark the paint , they say they don't cover where the chips happen etc etc , but if everyone hates them why are their lots of companies making a living making and selling them someone MUST like them their buying them

for me i used one on my old A3 , it didn't mark the paint because i didn't leave it on for weeks at end and never used it in the rain , it covered 90% of the chips already on the bonnet and even i wasn't a fan of the looks but who cares its your car and it got to the stage i would use it just to get people pointing and talking never worried me what they throught

pics for you haters to hate  :happy2:

I don't like how they look either.

I suppose you have to decide either to accept the inevitable stone chips and have your bonnet resprayed every few years for a few hundred £, or buy a cheap bra and live with the looks.

Wear a bra, or go bra-less? - It's the question which everyone isn't sure about when they consider a bra of the car variety.

It's a marmite thing - They look great on American long-distance trucks and on black cars but not on other coloured cars in my opinion. On one hand they protect from stone chips etc but on the other hand they can collect abrasive grit/dust under them. Personally, I don't follow the vehicle in front too closely and so lessen the risk - At least, that's the theory.

I like some bras though:

Now THIS is a bra!............

It's there to do a job isn't it so what it looks like shouldn't really be a priority, I'm sure some people just put them on because they think they're cool, personally I'd feel a bit of a plonker with one on.....(the car not me)

They loot sh*t but I have one for the occasional motorway drive and for the gritting season. Can't believe anyone would buy for its aesthetics value as it has none. Takes all sorts though.

Only problem is the havoc it causes underneath with the paint work from all the detritus on the roads so its straight on with the Bra onto a waxed bonnet (multiple layers) and straight off when I get where I'm going and a bonnet wash.

Never had any comments other than p*ss taking. And no I'm not posting a pic of my Eddy wearing one for someone to bring it up at a later date!

....No need for you to post one, Martin - The forum's 2013 calendar now has a shot of Miss October (your car) wearing a bra

Nothing cool about them, however they are entirely practical when used for the right reasons... This time of year with grit being thrown all over the place (some pieces are quite chunky i've found, esp on motorways) or motorway journeys in general to help protect the front end.

But certainly wouldnt fit one with the idea of thinking it makes my car look cool... absolutely not!
