Wiring xenon pin 11 for shutters
« on: December 17, 2012, 04:49:15 pm »
I was following this tutorial (http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/a5/HID-retrofit-Jetta-a5.htm) to install my headlights and all was well until it came to wiring pin 11. The problem was getting the wires through the firewall and into the car to be wired into the CECM. I should've had a good look around because it wasn't necessary to remove the air filter box nor the battery (although it was good I did because one of the pipes had a hole in which I didn't know about!). There was a place in the top left hand corner under the hood where there is some wiring going through; I punched a hole through this and passed the wires through. Here are some pictures, I hope they can save someone time. I wasted time disassembling and reassembling stuff which I didn't need to.

Need to remove the wiper so you can lift the plastic up otherwise you won't have enough room to work.

You can see where the hole is punched and where the wires pass through. Be sure to seal the area around after your done .

Good work. This is hopefully one of my jobs this week!

You got hold of some xenons then? I'm guessing by your username you was messaging me on eBay about some cr@p ones...?

Did your wipers come off easy enough? I've given mine a soak in WD40 tonight in hope they come off alright tomorrow/wednesday.

Cheers

Ah I thought your username sounded familiar. I ended up going to a breaker and paying £400 for a decent pair. Went to view 3-4 off ebay but all of their condition was appauling.

The drivers side one came off easily but the passenger side one was really stiff. You only need to take the drivers side off anyway; this gives enough room to work, unless of course you have giant hands.  :happy2:

I did the same thing. Couldn't find anwhere through the firewall so popped the scuttle panel off and went through there. Funnily I did this today but couldn't find any helpful tips or advice anywhere. Typical!  :signLOL:
